Former Attorney General Eric Holder joins Bill Maher to discuss the aftermath of Donald Trump's election and calls for the abolition of the Electoral College.
Holder said the U.S. should elect presidents via popular vote instead of through electoral votes. The former attorney general said there is a simple solution, "we have to just abolish the electoral college."

Which must include removing ALL non citizens from our voter rolls (both legal and illegal aliens) and keeping them off. Hillary only “won” the popular vote due to massive illegal voting by non citizens!

Trump and Congress can and should fix this at the Federal Level, in the first 100 days, especially with all the crying about his “losing” the popular vote. Trump actually won the popular vote of Citizens! You don’t win over 300 electoral votes without also winning the popular vote without massive fraud in the loser’s states!
In previous occasions when the popular vote winner lost the electoral college vote, the electoral college winner narrowly won the electoral college (Bush in 2000 had only 271 after Florida - Trump has 306 in comparison)!
Congress has the authority to establish the time, place and manner for Federal elections. This would include ordering state elections offices to remove non citizens from their voter rolls and keeping them off in the future by nationally requiring proof of citizenship for all new voter registrations in every state!
I have heard of this bill but don’t believe this was a amendment to the Constitution?
They do lie...
One county, one vote.
Holder is an ignoramus.
He is also a depraved monster who hatched a plan which depended upon the murder of random innocent persons.
Yes, we want a President only New York and California approve of.
Hey Eric... SO CLOSE to becoming a SCOTUS Judge.... and the opportunity was just snatched from you... HHHAHHHAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHAH
Its true that Trump did not win the popular vote. But he did not try to either. If it were a popular vote that mattered there would have been rallies and ads in California and New York. And Trump would have won the popular vote. But as that was not required, Trump did not do it.
Trump spent his time out in states that mattered and Hillary spent her time in mansions of the rich and famous collecting money. And in the end, Trump is President Elect, and Hillary is not.
But if people are saying that Trump and Republicans are a minority party, they have only to look at the state legislatures (68 out of 99), governor-ships (34 out of 50),The US House of Representatives(239 out of 436), and US Senate (52 out of 100) to figure out where the electorate is. The country is republican. And they live and vote local.
One of THE very first subversives the new DOJ needs to examine.
ABOLISH EARLY VOTING.
Thank you both!
Makes sense to me. So does the Electoral college.
I wonder, how many illegals voted? Someone mentioned 1.6 million? Encouraged to do so by the big Zero? How many for Hillary? Throw those votes out.
How much vote fraud occurred? We have no clue, but I’ll estimate at least 250,000 votes on the Democrat side, what with all the magical vote changing machines and secret vote manufacturing rooms in Broward county, and the early and often types. Factor these out and she lost both the electoral and popular vote.
Do we know this guy!!? How do we forget Obama’s gun runner head of the DoJ. The one that caused the US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry children to grow up without a father. The federal operation dubbed Fast and Furious for which he walked away from unscathed.
What a useless affirmative-action hire. Shouldn’t this bum and criminal be in prison for his many crimes?
Since slaves had no rights, they should not have been counted as all (any more than "Indians not taxed" were) but the compromise was made to win the support of the states with large slave populations for the Constitution.
Excellant point! If the game was to be played to win primarily the popular vote verses the electoral vote then presidential campaign strategies would be very different. Therefore it is a total red-herring to make anything at all of the popular vote. Trump beat 17 primary republican candidates and the democrat machine/media backed candidate. I believe if his focus was simply on the popular vote he could have easily employed a different campaign strategy and won that instead. The electoral college serves a very different constitutional purpose which is to level the playing field for the many smaller states verses the larger states. This has been well explained by many, but to think the popular vote in and of itself trumps the electoral vote the rules being what they are is naive.
Just dole out free barrels of whiskey and recreational marijuana in heavily populated areas!
Click on the link and learn more about it. It is not an amendment to the Constitution. It uses the compact provisions between the states to circumvent the Electoral College.
It was done less for taxation purposes and more for representation in government purposes.
The compromise was made because slave states wanted slaves to count 100%, which would have given them more representation in congress.
Anti-slavery states said they should count as 0%, since they could not vote.
The two issues, taxation and representation were both linked to the counted population, but taxation was not on the mind of the anti-slavery people. Not to say taxation wasn’t part of it, but it was far from foremost as the driving force in the compromise.
It was all about representation in Congress, not about taxation, even though the two are linked. The anti-slavery states did not want the slave-holding states to have (to them) an artificially high level of legislative power assigned to them simply because they had slaves, which would have given them reason to have even more.
SC is now my home. Moved here when I retired, haven’t looked back. Wonderful place. However, wish there were fewer blue Yankees.
