McConnell hints against nuke option to kill Dem filibusters

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hinted Wednesday that he doesn’t support the controversial idea of changing Senate rules to kill Democratic filibusters, and instead indicated that this move might be seen as an overreach by Republicans.

When Democrats ran the Senate, they changed the rules to allow for simple majority votes for judicial nominees, but not Supreme Court nominees, which can still be filibustered. But despite speculation that Republicans will take this next step, McConnell indicated some resistance to it when asked.

He said “overreaching after an election, generally speaking, is a mistake.” And when pressed on McConnell’s approach to working with Democrats in the new Senate, McConnell said the way the chamber is structured requires “some Democratic participation and cooperation.” …

Democrats up for election know they must tread carefully.

Trump, even though the vote was close, has a mandate. Think about it.

When he nominates someone, the democrats will be shaking in their boots.

Let the Dems filibuster! If a colostomy bag is good enough for Hillary! it’s good enough for them!

I’d love it if we had hours and hours of video DOCUMENTING their insanity.

Best. Election. Ever.

And he should express reluctance to do it, until a minute before he passes it.

We now OWN the Presidency, the House and the Senate. How can they stop any appointments?

It’s traditional for the Senate to allow a filibuster of judicial appointments. Well, it was until Reid and the Dems decided not to, except for Supreme Court justices.

Of course if the Dems don’t allow a “Scalia type” justice to be appointed it will force Mitch’s hand and he’ll have to end their fillibustering whether he wants to or not.

Pence should sit on the Senate. As VP he can do that and control it.

Democrat fibuster in the Senate. Both parties have historically used it to stop appointments. The SCOTUS filibuster of the appointment of Robert Bork is one example

Trump wont be able to put any pressure on dem senators if they can use the filibuster rule. Just like odumbi coundn’t stop the GOP Senators from stalling and killing legislation.

The vice president is also president of the United States Senate...put Pence in there every day and get a vote to nuke the filibuster.

trump has plenty to do and will have the power to jam it to the media...

try and pass things, fix things through the executive agencies and eviscerate them in the midterms.

No need to fight a battle for a SCJ, just drop a nuke on the filibuster and then you just need 51 votes. BOOM.

It kills me that when Dems are in charge they change the rules to suit them and get their agenda done and republicans never do. I think McConnell does not realize the value of giving the rats a taste of their own medicine.

Just for the record, I voted against McConnell in his primary election a year or two ago.
