McConnell hints against nuke option to kill Dem filibusters

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hinted Wednesday that he doesn’t support the controversial idea of changing Senate rules to kill Democratic filibusters, and instead indicated that this move might be seen as an overreach by Republicans.

When Democrats ran the Senate, they changed the rules to allow for simple majority votes for judicial nominees, but not Supreme Court nominees, which can still be filibustered. But despite speculation that Republicans will take this next step, McConnell indicated some resistance to it when asked.

He said “overreaching after an election, generally speaking, is a mistake.” And when pressed on McConnell’s approach to working with Democrats in the new Senate, McConnell said the way the chamber is structured requires “some Democratic participation and cooperation.” …

Collaboration is not cowardice. Technically speaking. To be a coward means you actually stood for what your electorate stands for, and there is no evidence of McConnell ever doing so even going back to the Reagan years. This move is pure sabotage.

This a$$hole rolls over for flaming revolutionaries like Kagen and Sottomeyer and will now allow the rats to veto Trump’s picks.

Let’s see what Mr. Trump says and will do about this.

Telegraphing his intentions, again! He, too, needs to be replaced!

He has 51.... 8 of them are the likes of McCain, Graham as part of a carnival of back stabbing RINOs.

Mitch has no choice but to use the Nuclear Option and Nix Cloture because between McCain and Graham cozying up to Schumer or worse, DJT's chances of anything getting done in the Senate is Zero.

We have to get it done fast, something a turtle has no knowledge of.

Perhaps Majority Leader Rand Paul or Ted Cruz is a much better option...

True. And it’d be silly to create the impression he wanted to do it.

Just saw that there are 10 Dem Senators up for re-election in 2018... in states Trump won.

This kind of broadcasting is worse than “telegraphing”, but perhaps I’m being too literal.

I’m OK with leaving the filibuster in place except for laws that were passed through reconciliation. It is then OK to use reconciliation to repeal those laws.

Get rid of Mitch. Make Jeff Sessions Senate Majority Leader.

There could be some merit in this.

Firstly, Obamacare repeal will have to be done under budget reconciliation, which is how it was created, in order to dodge filibuster. So that gets done without nuclear option.

Secondly, as we saw with Roberts, picking a right wing judge and expecting him to support that position once at the USSC is entirely dicey. So there’s really no point nominating one. Maybe instead nominate someone who can get 9-10 dem senators. He’d be someone rather, but not extremely, right of center and could be confirmed. No point in choosing to fight a battle for an extreme right nominee who won’t judge that way once confirmed.

They better keep the judges 50-vote need that Reid put through. The democrats infected the lower courts for decades. We need to get conservative judges wherever we can.

It’s not the Nuclear Option, it’s the Harry Reid Rule.

No! You're absolutely correct! I used an old sports term, as in "telegraphing your pass". Either way, he's telling everyone what he won't do. Just like he said, "impeachment was off the table".

Dear McConnell,

Pay attention to Trump’s lead. Trump will show you how to win.

Remember, he beat you and the establishment. Don’t push it or you’ll lose again.

I’m missing the point here.. Why would they pre-announce plans? You’d wait until someone is being obstructionist then come up with a solution.
