West Coast now under web attack as East Coast recovers
Mercury News ^ | Oct. 21, 2016 | Ethan Baron

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is reportedly investigating. The attack raised fears that this could be a trial run for an attempt at a major disruption of the U.S. presidential election.

While many of the websites affected by the first attack, which hit the East Coast, are back up, sites hosted on the West Coast, including Twitter and Recode, have been hit, and were unavailable for many as of 11 a.m. Friday. As of 11 a.m., Dyn’s online update about its response to the attacks said the company was continuing to “investigate and mitigate.”

The outages appear to have resulted from a “distributed denial of services” attack on web hosting firm Dyn. Firms such as Dyn “act as the internet’s phone book and facilitate your request to go to a certain webpage and make sure you are taken to the right place. If the (domain name server) provider that handles requests for Twitter is down, well, good luck getting to Twitter,” explains Gizmodo.

Call me a dunce but is this outage only affecting internet traffic? What about when you purchase gas or other items via debit/credit cards?

I’d hazard a guess that it’s relatively self-explanatory, as in: ok, we see that you can do it, so please stop now.

“If this is indeed a trial run to disrupt things on election day, it is a good idea for those who can and whose state allows it, to vote early.”]

Allowing people to vote early in non guarded manor is a Horrible Idea. Other than for very few reasons where no other option is possible. That process is the cream of all voter fraud. A process that is not even close to being reasonably monitored because it can’t be on a mass scale.

Voting should in no way be reliant on the internet and should in no way be connected to it. Because it is another avenue for fraud.

Everyone should have to show ID. All 3rd party voter organizations should be outlawed. They are funded and exist for one reason...To commit fraud.

You know the problem with notices from Wikileaks is that if their website and such is taken over it can be used to distribute messages from a 3rd party and make them look legit.
In this day and age well designed video is really the only way to be mostly sure.

I tried the DNS settings switch from Berlin's link (was auto DNS on Win7) and damned if FR isn't flying again, unlike the ass draggin' it's done the past week or so.

John, have you pulled any tweaks overnight that would explain the suddenly FAST refreshes ?
