BOSTON (CBS) — Monday Night Football in Week 5 featured two underperforming (or just-plain-bad) NFL teams and posted the lowest overnight rating since ESPN acquired the rights to broadcast the show in 2006. The Week 6 contest between the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets, somehow, performed even worse.

Of course, there is still the segment of fans who have decided to stop watching the NFL altogether in the wake of players protesting the national anthem, which many mainstream media outlets continue to curiously ignore (save for a select few from Forbes and The Sporting News).

The NFL is sucking the life out of its own product, and it certainly didn’t help that it started politicizing the broadcasts either. Hundreds of fans have emailed me to declare that they are boycotting the NFL over the anthem protest movement started by the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick. The hashtag #BoycottNFL has been tweeted or retweeted about 1,500 times in just the past 24 hours, according to HashTracking.com. The really need to figure out what went wrong with the scheduling computer this year. I love football and I don’t boycott anything, but I’ve been skipping prime time games this year because they stink. Most weeks this season the 2 worst games of the week are prime time. I mean really who thought Indie (not very good lately) vs Houston (never been good) and Jets (rarely good) vs Cards (even rarer) were prime time matchups? They seem to be trying to spread the wealth this year, but forget that. The prime time schedule should be built around Dallas, Green Bay, and Pittsburgh (3 most popular teams across the nation); New England (always good and very hated); and the Superbowl teams (usually at least 1 is good the next year). At most you’ve got 6 marque teams in the league, use em. They’ve even broken Thursday (frequently bad games anyway due to short rest) with a bunch of non-division matchups, at least when they’re divisonal matchups you’ve got hate to fuel the game and make up for the lack of practice.

Plus I am personally SOOOOOO ready to ditch instant replay.
Every time there’s an exciting play now the game comes screeching to a complete halt for 3 to 5 minutes while the ref goes under the hood. More often than not the exciting play that just got you into the game gets reversed.
I’d rather live with the human error, thank you.

Or when the Colts moved to Indianapolis...
Or when the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens...
Of course the Cardinals originally played in Chicago before moving to Saint Louis and subsequently to Arizona.
