Donald Trump's campaign is "pulling out of Virginia," a move that stunned staff in the battleground state, three sources with knowledge of the decision told NBC News.
The decision came from Trump's headquarters in New York and was announced on a conference call late Wednesday that left some Republican Party operatives in the state blindsided. Two staffers directly involved in the GOP's efforts in Virginia confirmed the decision.
The move to pull out of Virginia shows Trump is "running essentially a four state campaign," with the focus now shifting to battlegrounds critical to his chances in November: Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio, a source with knowledge of the decision told NBC News.
If he’s moving money out of VA I hope he uses it in Michigan....I’m not comfortable betting it all all on PA.
I understand. I’ve worked in Northern Va for 26 years and seen the change. Poor Virginia, now I know how the folks in upstate/western NY feel. With that said, that is the reason I said, the hillary supporters are too embarrassed to publicly support HRC like in past. I have no doubt Northern Va will go hrc, it’s just not as noticeable as in the past.
And right...FairFax is as far-left of a county as North Korea...
That’s one harlot you shouldn’t have hooked up with.
Trump's unconventional candidacy has transcended the usual "red-blue" divide in national elections and turned it into an establishment vs. anti-establishment affair.
And more of the wealthiest, (and most likely to back the establishment status quo), voters are now backing Hillary Clinton. In 2012, Republican Mitt Romney beat President Obama by 10 percentage points among voters earning $100,000 or more per year. Most polls now show that has completely flipped to an eight-to-ten point lead for Clinton. And Virginia is now home to the top two counties for median income in the entire country.
And so much of that growing wealth and attachment to the status quo in Virginia is because of the government. Thanks to lucrative D.C.-area lobbying jobs and the rock-solid job security Virginia's large number of federal government workers enjoy, the state is chock full of residents who rely on Uncle Sam. And with the federal government still growing robustly over the past decades under both Republican and Democratic administrations, that establishment base is getting bigger.

But his relative weakness in the Virginia polls tells us a significant portion of the population there doesn't like the sound of this outsider threatening their way of life. Imagine if Trump came into Michigan and bashed autoworkers, or showed up in Florida and bashed Social Security? Bashing the government and insiders in Washington has a similar effect for a lot of Democrats and Republicans in Virginia.
This is kind of weird, Pence was just in Roanoke today and it was standing room only. Trump has been here twice.
I agree. I see no Hillary signs, bumper stickers, absolutely nothing. The libs at work don’t like her, but they like Trump less, so they will vote out of duty and that is all. I was hoping for a secret Trump vote in this state, but I don’t think that will happen now. Trump really isn’t focusing on Hillary. He is too mad at Republicans and is busy focused on that. Too bad since I don’t think people really understand how deeply corrupt she is.
He is essentially fighting Hillary and the entire Establishment and people need to realize that and understand what he is up against and how rigged the entire system is. That’s why he talks about that as well as talking about how crooked HILLARY is and how she is part and parcel of that whole corrupt system.
Trump is very strong in your part of the state and will win it by double digits. Unfortunately, there are not enough people in your part of the state to make up for all the libs that vote in Northern Va and Tidewater area.
Absolutely agree with you, but first things first. Focus on Hillary and win and then focus on your own party. When his message as broadcast by the media is on his own rants, then any message about Hillary is lost. He needs that free media because he is getting outspent on ads by a huge margin. Ads can be effective and carry your message, but if there are few ads, his every word uttered becomes very important.
I know some folks like that. Cut them some slack. They feel beat up on, betrayed over and over and they’re tired and trying to not face a huge letdown. They’re insulating themselves.
Not everyone is a warrior. A good leader offers encouragement instead of scorn to the depressed.
Crooked pulled out of Ohio
both campaigns now concentrating forces where matters
Maybe I’m overstating the importance of getting out the message right now that all the bums are corrupt. Maybe that can wait until later.
Although later when he is president won’t be the time either because he will have an agenda to push through. And it will be a tough row to hoe because he doesn’t have the support of his own party.
It’s tough. But I think he knows what he’s doing and he wants people to see that it’s us against them and to understand HILLARY is one of them (the enemy).

Oh, I’d say you can still sling a word or two.
I think they use spellcheck instead of a live editor. This is a visual generation: whole word and video. If you read current grammar advice, lots of instances for internal punctuation (comma, et al) seem to have become simple preference or pauses for effect.
The worst crime, though, IMO, is that they mangle content in the service of belief. I know a woman who calls herself a reporter who is retired from a small-market paper. She casually admits to simply printing whatever a D politician gave her. Then again, she covered City Council meetings.
Sounds like disinformation to me. So this is NBC, the same organization who held the tape to use it for maximum effect against Trump and now what they say about the campaign is going to be taken as truth?
Given that I just got a note yesterday looking for volunteers to make calls in VA, that doesn’t sound to me like a pull out by any stretch of the imagination.
I thought that Trump is on his way to a fifty state, landslide victory! What happened to this line of thinking?
Anonymous sources.
Extremely short article and no details.
Biased anti-Trump reporter.
No confirmation from the campaign.
Trump campaign officials not asked for comments or quotes.
Trump is probably winning in Virginia.
GOPe sabotage and NBC collusion?
If NBC (Never Berate Clinton) says it, it MUST be true.
Good move. I pulled out of Virginia 6 years ago.
Pray for bad weather in Northern Virginia on election day.
