Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Water and sewer outages are planned starting after 8 p.m. today on barrier islands east of the Intracoastal Waterway within St. Johns County (including Ponte Vedra, Vilano Beach and Anastasia Island), according to a St. Johns County news release. The suspension includes St. Johns County Utility, City of St. Augustine Utility and JEA Utility customers in those areas.
All is calm, no rain, low-lying clouds in tiers all around us but they're just hanging there doing nothing, sun just set in a low bright, clear horizon to the southwest, mild wind, palm fronds outside my windows dancing a little more than they were an hour ago, but they're doing a measured two-step, not a polka.

Cocoa Utilities has already shut off water to Merritt Island and all beachside communities at 6PM.
If you think about it the hurricane is spinning Counter clockwise. So on the left side I would say that you would subtract forward speed from the total. Add it instead for the Right side. No change if either in front or behind the eye. Don’t know if that is totally correct, but it is what makes sense.

Right front inner eyewall is absolutely parked over Freeport. Must be horrible over there.

Matthew has shown almost no movement the last half hour as its west side is parked over the Gulf Stream where it can feast on the hot water. Very bad news.

8pm advisory has winds down to 130 mph due to concentric eyewalls. Bad news is windfield extended outwards. And we still can see intensification due to crossing the Gulf Stream.
