I have not seen one mention of Clinton referring to trump as ""Donald" thru the debate. Disrespectful! If Trump had called her Hilliary just once he would have been labeled terrible things. Her way of dismissing and making him less significant than her the Queen.
Bothered me too. She was deliberately disrespectful - he was deliberately respectful. Trump also could have demolished Hillary regarding the woman issue - he had respect for Chelsea. Seems like Trump is coming across as a decent person - the antithesis of Hillary.
I’m curious what was the overall reaction on the news in Japan to the debate that you saw?
Trump did make the mistake of mentioning China & Japan are “Stealing our jobs and our companies.”
I know lots of Japanese people and that’s the wrong way to phrase it. In Japan, that plays like, “The Japanese are thieves” — which they are not.
Rather he should be saying Japanese & Chinese are OUTCOMPETING us for jobs BECAUSE of the high taxes and high regulations here.
He started off calling her Secretary Clinton - she started off calling him Donald.
He did call her Hillary right at the beginning. Then, he corrected himself and called her Secretary and added, “Is that better?”
She was rude throughout and smirked every time he hit her with a zinger. The shoulder shake at the end was just too much! Literally barf inducing.
Actually, I think it works against her. He was respectful, using her title and surname. She tried to denigrate him by calling him by his given name.
But, she forgets that the title-surname labeling is a beltway thing, whereas most of America likes it when a person is accepting of a given name familiarity.
Welcome to FR.
“Her supporters are immune to the lack of respect but it is a perceived derogation that will definitely raise eyebrows around the world.”
That’s not all her supporters ignore. Her lies, corruption, disregard for the security of the U.S.....
But Trump is not a professional politician that lives or dies by his title.
I strongly believe that is one thing people like about him as a candidate.
“Rather he should be saying Japanese & Chinese are OUTCOMPETING us for jobs BECAUSE of the high taxes and high regulations here.”
I agree with that.
So, not only as a show of respect to be followed by a statesman, Trump must avoid calling her by her first name.
Calling him Donald makes him appear more accessible to people. He’s kind of a huge success that is still just a guy. Clinton actually helps Donald doing that.
Called Secretary Clinton, she looked smug and seeing Donald interrupted so often in the debate by the moderator made him look like David against a crooked system of Goliaths.
he did call her or refer to her as Hillary 8 times - he ended with calling her Hillary
He referred to her as Hillary in his first or second response; the one about Ford moving jobs out of the country.
Calling Clinton "Hillary," well, that's what all her signs and bumper stickers say -- which, by the way, I think is a mistake on her part. A last name has more gravitas.
Exactly. He is so much more class than she even imagines.
I certainly noticed. That was just one aspect of her condescension toward Mr. Trump.
She was just continuing what Barry has done to his opponents from the start.
Yes, so I’ve read. That’s been posted here, previously. ;-)
