Republican nominee Donald Trump called first presidential debate moderator, NBC News anchor Lester Holt, “a Democrat” Monday, despite public records that indicate otherwise.
New York State voter registration documents show that Holt has been a registered Republican in the state since 2003.
Trump’s comments to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, which were offered without any evidence to support the claim, are part of a time-honored tradition of alleging moderator bias and expectations-setting before a presidential debate.
“By the way, Lester is a Democrat. It’s a phony system. They are all Democrats. It’s a very unfair system,” Trump said of the debate moderators.
The NBC newsman, regarded by both parties as a straight shooter, is set to moderate the first debate on Sept. 26.
Trump has not been alone in criticizing the objectivity of debate moderators. Hillary Clinton’s campaign sent out a pair of fundraising appeals off NBC anchor Matt Lauer’s performance anchoring a back-to-back candidate town hall earlier this month.

I think that Trump may be right, and after what liberals decided was a fiasco with Matt Lauer, Holt will feel he has to be extra tough on him. NBC wouldn't be able to stand it if people think they were too easy on Trump twice.
For the record, that would still make 2/3 debates hosted by Democrats or 3/4 moderators. I'm not sure about the VP debate.

Well, I will say that I think he does a good job hosting Dateline (which is obviously not a political show), so when I heard they assigned him to do the news after Williams left, I thought he was a good choice. I assumed he was a Democrat (I assume most in the media are or liberal Republicans), but then again, I certainly don’t expect a conservative doing a nightly newscast or show at NBC.
He has never hosted a debate before. While I think he’ll have to be very tough on Trump to make up for Lauer, we’ll see if he’s equally as tough on Hillary.

I’m still frustrated at how the liberals and Hillary henchmen went after Matt Lauer.
Instead of discussing Hillary’s shortcomings, and Trump’s good performance at the commander in chief forum, the liberals instead attacked Matt Lauer for not bringing down Trump.
Is the job of a media moderator at a news event to “bring down” a certain candidate running in an election????
Rather than dealing with Hillary’s poor performance, they lashed out at the moderator.

“Registered Republican” means nothing. So are Mitt Romney, Lindsey Graham, Richard Hanna, Susan Collins, and a number of others who are doing all they can to bring down the person Republican voters freely chose to be their Presidential candidate.
