An iconic American company, McDonalds, has quietly outsourced the jobs of 70 white-collar professionals in Ohio to foreign H-1B workers.
The H-1Bs outsourcing in the nations heartland showcases the growing corporate effort to use foreign H-1B workers to cut workforces of American white-collar professionals, and it comes after companies have used waves of legal and illegal migrants to slash blue-collar jobs and wages in Ohio and around the country.
Also, the 70 Ohio jobs that McDonalds outsourced to lower wage foreign graduates are not Silicon Valley technology and software jobs theyre white-collar accounting jobs performed by graduates from mainstream business schools. That outsourcing of mainstream business jobs spotlights the growing movement of foreign workers into all corners of the nations white-collar professional economy.
White-collar outsourcing is not just a Silicon Valley thing anymore, it is happening all over the country, said Steve Camarota, head of research at the Center for Immigration Studies.
The outsourcing in Columbus, Ohio, was explained as a cost saving effort by a McDonalds spokeswoman. To deliver $500 million in savings, the vast majority by the end of 2017, we are restructuring many aspects of our business, including an accounting function, said spokeswoman Terri Hickey.

Yep, I’ve seen some crazy things.
Best practices thrown right out the window.
Same here...
My fast food weakness is Chick Fil A and Wendy’s.
So, the reality is that it is our government who is responsible for the loss of jobs for Americans in America. Businesses as just trying to stay in business and remain profitable. Two options to accomplish that are to hire H-1B visa holders, and/or relocate businesses outside of American borders.
Gotta give em a reason to keep the jobs here AND use American workers.
Serious question. Why are they labeled American companies if the majority of their jobs are overseas?
What makes a company an American, English, Russian company besides an address?
I live in the country so my access to fast food establishments are limited as to what is close by. So for me Popeye’s is about the only one I ever eat from anymore, but man do I miss those Chik Fil A spicy chicken sandwiches. Used to love Wendy’s but for some reason they just are not as good as they used to be, same with Burger King. McDonalds on the other hand became unpalatable several years ago now. Guess I consumed just too many quarter pounders in my lifetime.
Like hell Trump can’t stop this H1B madness.
Most of these companies are skirting the law, and hiring H1B workers in place of readily available American workers as required by law. Once again, as is also the case regarding illegal immigration, just enforce the law. Novel concept these days, but all he needs is a phone. No pen required.
The food sucks to begin with so a shxty foreign staff makes sense.
The execs are mostly concerned with maximizing share price, so they cash out big at the end of their day when they leave the company. It’s the price companies are paying for not promoting within their ranks, starting with the manure pile or mailroom.
Almost all execs these days were hired from outside the company.
I only get takeout from fast food places when I absolutely have to, like when traveling. It’s too expensive anymore. You used to be able to get two sandwiches for ten dollars. Not now.
The “economic reasons” why H1-Bs are often preferred are actually legal reasons - H1-Bs have no rights, no protections, and thus can’t effectively sue for abuses (in addition to being paid much less).
The reality is that all “economic” arguments for H1-Bs are political arguments. It will never, ever, ever in the history future past or present of the human race be more cost effective to bring someone from the other side of the planet to do a job that could be done just as well by someone already on this side of the planet.
Trump's administration needs to fix this law, and jail anybody who is in violation of the existing law.
Is it TCruz who is the defender of H1B’s or is it all of them?
Cruz is the guy who wanted to increase the size of the H1-B program by a factor of FIVE.
Until that position became inconvenient for him in the primaries.
No word on whether he’s back to his old H1-B position, but I’d wager he is.
Do you get 72 virgins if you poison a group of Americans by lacing their food with a substance, or does it have to be a violent event? I won’t be eating at McDonalds.

>>So who do they thinks gonna buy their hamburgers is nobody has jobs??????
These “capitalists” are counting on the government to fund welfare so people can buy their products.
And thus, socialism and “cronies” establish a sick symbiosis. If you aren’t in on the special deals, it sucks for poor you.
Define struggling to remain competitive. They are struggling to grow earnings 6-8% a year, which is why they are doing it. I don’t know that I care about that. Agree with taxes and regulations (although some of the large MNCs don’t mind the regs that much - makes it harder for smaller firms to get started/grow).
>>Youre claiming its corporate greed, but maybe its not as simple as that. Perhaps these companies are struggling to remain competitive. If thats soand many think that plays a major rolethen what makes it so difficult to compete? American taxes and regulations.
Which American taxes and regulations apply to McDonalds, but not to Chik-Fil-A or Wendy’s?
