President Barack Obama has created a 4,900 square mile no-go zone for commercial fishing and other activity off the coast of New England as the first-ever Atlantic marine monument, a move loudly hailed by many environmentalists, but drawing strong protests from the fishing industry as well as causing discomfort among some prominent Democratic politicians whose constituents are affected.
According to the White House, the newly protected zone, which focuses on a section of the lip of the continental shelf near the fishing grounds of Georges Bank, “includes three underwater canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon and four underwater mountains known as ‘seamounts’ that are biodiversity hotspots and home to many rare and endangered species.”

Presidents have been designating national monuments since Congress passed the Antiquities Act and Teddy Roosevelt was the first prez to do so.
GW Bush was the first to designate a marine national monument, and he designated two of them. Earlier, Obama enlarged the marine national monument that Bush designated.

You would never know from some of these article titles that the USA actually has a federal Congress.
Patriots, please don’t forget that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress has the constitutional authority to override anything that Obama does (1.7.2), but stubbornly refuses to exercise that power.

Patriots need to support Trump / Pence by also electing a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will not only work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support Trump’s vision for making America great again for everybody, including crab fishermen.
Note that such a Congress will also probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.

Absolutely untrue. Ever hear of jewfish (now called politically correct goliath grouper)? They were well on their way to extinction solely from overfishing until in 1994 they were declared protected and have slowly been making their numbers back up since then. even the seemingly endless numbers of menhaden have taken a hit recently primarily due to the demand for fish oil - a bogus dietary supplement similar to snake oil in its benefits for the human body. Commercial fishing needs curtailing from time to time, although doing it by imperial decree by emperor 0bama is the wrong way to go about it.
Commercial fishermens' income is directly dependent on how much they catch; they have no incentive to do anything but catch as many as they can before someone else does - as someone else mentioned it's called the tragedy of the commons

The Exclusive Economic Zone(EEZ) extends out 200 nautical miles. But if a nation's shelf extends beyond the 200 mile EEZ, that can also be claimed as EEZ.
Obviously, there can be overlapping claims such as between Florida and Cuba in the Florida straits or the Bering Straits between Alaska and Russia.
The US unilaterally established her maritime borders in 1976 with the Magnussen Act. The rest of the world did so in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Seas.

The oceans are extremely deep and full of fish. There are fish species than man has never even seen. Man is fishing the very tops of the oceans. A drop in the bucket. Closing off the oceans to fisherman indefinitely is about as stupid as the global warming nonsense. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be fish and wildlife management so fisherman themselves aren’t harmed. But the fish themselves need no permanent protection.
