The FReeper Canteen presents....
~ The Star Spangled Banner ~ Written by Francis Scott Key (1814)
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
The War of 1812 had been a particularly nasty conflict with the British. They had burned down the Capitol and the White House in Washington, and were set on taking the port of Baltimore, which was protected in part by Fort McHenry, just to the south. On September 7th, 1814, during the build-up to the attack on Baltimore, two Americans, Colonel John Skinner and a lawyer and part-time poet by the name of Francis Scott Key, had gone out to one of the British ships. They had come to negotiate the release of Dr William Beanes, a friend of Key who had been seized following the attack on Washington. The British agreed, but all three had learned too much about the forthcoming attack on Baltimore and so were detained by the British on board the frigate Surprise until it was over. The attack started on September 12th, 1814, and after an initial exchange of fire, the fleet withdrew to form an arc just outside the range of Fort McHenry's fire. Skinner, Beanes and Key watched much of the bombardment from the British deck. The major attack started in heavy rain on the morning of September 13th. Just under three miles in the distance the three men caught glimpses of the star-shaped fort with its huge flag - 42ft long, with 8 red stripes, 7 white stripes and 15 white stars, and specially commissioned to be big enough that the British could not possibly fail to see it from a distance. In the dark of the night of the 13th, the shelling suddenly stopped. Through the darkness they couldn't tell whether the British forces had been defeated, or the fort had fallen. As the rain cleared, and the sun began to rise, Key peered through the lifting darkness anxious to see if the flag they had seen the night before was still flying. And so it was that he scribbled on the back of an envelope the first lines of a poem he called Defense of Fort M'Henry. O, say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming

Lynn-Dah has been so lame lately that she wouldn’t be able to do the walk. But it’s Ok. She’ll stay home with proper medication and have a nice nap. It is only in the AM and nearby, so it won’t be too long.
I have been getting physical therapy on my ankle, and I feel great! I highly recommend it.

Okay, not sure where to post this question but I’m giving it a shot here. Some of y’all will think it’s just silly maybe but my 2nd oldest grandaughter had her first full day in Air Force boot camp today and I’d like to know what her first day was like. Anyway, if I asked this in the wrong thread maybe someone here can ping an air force vet?

[God] comforts us . . . so that we can comfort those in any trouble.
2 Corinthians 1:4
The body of Christ is a mysterious phrase used more than 30 times in the New Testament. The apostle Paul especially settled on that phrase as an image of the church. After Jesus ascended to heaven, He turned over His mission to flawed and bumbling men and women. He assumed the role of head of the church, leaving the tasks of arms, legs, ears, eyes, and voice to the erratic disciplesand to you and me.
Jesuss decision to operate as the invisible head of a large body with many parts means that He often relies on us to help one another cope during times of suffering. The apostle Paul must have had something like that in mind when he wrote these words: [God] comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ (2 Cor. 1:45). And all through his ministry Paul put that principle into practice, taking up collections for famine victims, dispatching assistants to go to troubled areas, acknowledging believers gifts as gifts from God Himself.
The phrase the body of Christ expresses well what we are called to do: to represent in flesh what Christ is like, especially to those in need.
Dear Lord, thank You for always being faithful to comfort me when Im hurting. Show me who needs my encouragement today.
Gods presence brings us comfort; our presence brings others comfort.
We receive Gods comfort for our sake but also to extend Gods comfort to those around us. The word paraklesis, translated as comfort, appears twenty-nine times in the New Testament. The word has a range of meaning that encompasses comfort, consolation, and earnest request and is most often translated encouragement. And of the eight times paraklesis is translated comfort, seven appear in this passage. Paul paints a picture of the God who is concerned: The God who, out of His compassion, is acting to provide consolation for His people. The text says not simply that God is a dispenser of comfort but that He is the source of all comfort.

I have an appointment tomorrow at a new place, a pain relief center. The shots in my knees have long run out. Premera rejected the approval to have the shots again.
“....Hyaluronan (Synvisc-One) is considered not medically necessary. The latest guidelines from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons do not recommend this treatment for arthritis in the knee....”
Probably not a sufferer in the bunch! They worked wonders for me. Shots with a life of 6-9 month...I milked almost 18 months out of them.
So, trying to find something different. Trying to put off knee replacement as long as I can.
