2. Is her bad health a way of escaping the fallout of her scandals? The ‘graceful’ exit?

Reminds me of Senator Alan Cranston. He was deemed to be the worst of the Keeting Five. He offered to step down if they would let him die in peace. He was supposedly at death’s doorstep.
He was let off, and died over nine years later.

Cranston was reprimanded by the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics for “improper conduct” on November 20, 1991 after Lincoln Savings head Charles Keating’s companies contributed $850,000 to voter registration groups closely affiliated with the senator. Keating had wanted federal regulators to stop “hounding” his savings and loan association. Although the committee found that “no evidence was presented to the Committee that Senator Cranston ever agreed to help Mr. Keating in return for a contribution,” the committee deemed Cranston’s misconduct the worst among the Keating Five. Cranston decided against running for a fifth term while he battled prostate cancer.

Even if it took several years, it remains a worthy plan to me. That he purchased every property around his is the key.
The report says this occurred over “a single afternoon and evening” but that was likely glossed over. Unless he was fortunate that no household decision makers were traveling and/or away from home that entire day and night. It is quite possible that he made at least the handsome offers to each interested head of household or their proxy and then the accepted offers and details followed at some later point.

As to who WOULD replace her, Biden or Kaine I would say.

As to the idea she might be looking for “graceful way out”, I dismiss that out of hand, she would never leave the race of her own volition unless she was literally physically unable to go on. She would use her daughter and grandchild as human sacrifices if she thought it would make her President. In spite of her weaknesses she still has an excellent chance of winning.
