Road Trip: Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana

Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base which is located in northwest Louisiana, in Bossier Parish, and is contiguous to Bossier City, Louisiana along the base's western and northwestern edge. Barksdale Air Force Base occupies over 22,000 acres of land east of Bossier City and along the southern edge of Interstate Highway 20.

The host unit at Barksdale is the 2d Bomb Wing (2 BW), the oldest Bomb Wing in the Air Force. It is assigned to the Air Force Global Strike Command's (AFGSC) Eighth Air Force (8 AF).

The 2 BW is equipped with the B-52H Stratofortress bomber. It provides flexible, responsive, global combat capability, autonomously or in concert with other forces, and trains all Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Force Reserve Command Boeing B-52 Stratofortress crews.

More than 15,000 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 44 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Team Barksdale provides decisive nuclear deterrence and conventional firepower to Combatant Commanders for global strike operations anytime, anywhere!

The 2d Bomb Wing is the largest bomb wing in Air Force Global Strike Command and part of the historic 8th Air Force. More than 8,500 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 26 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Still having monsoons? We did yesterday...high winds and lots of rain. Bent my flag pole 90 degrees at the bracket.

We had high winds and heavy rain yesterday. I had to go out and make sure everything was nailed down. I’ll check everything when I get home.

Today was pretty good. Only one of my Monday units got done, so only about 90 minutes homework. Tomorrow will be interesting.

I just got off the phone with an old high school buddy who's coming into town Wednesday, looking forward to having lunch with him.

Besides that, just had lunch at the VFW today and son came over to hang out and do homework and eat, of course :-)

Whoa! Not a fun day for y’all weather-wise! Must have been stout winds to bend your flagpole like that. Don’t need any more of that!

Hot today and will be hotter tomorrow. MIGHT get a little rain tomorrow but the best chance for that is this weekend.
The nice thing has been the cool nights. Even got down in the 50s last night.

Absolutely super! My roomie was a Frontier pilot and she gave me a phone number to call for a phone interview for a pilot job. It’s set up for next week. She said they’re hiring like crazy. Might get to fly an Airbus 320, they look like a Boeing 737.

Quiet day at the HQ, as usual. A couple of people popped in to get yard signs while I was there. Should be busy this weekend with the street festival going on, provided it doesn’t rain much.
