Hillary Clinton falling ill Sunday morning at a memorial service on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks will catapult questions about her health from the ranks of conservative conspiracy theory to perhaps the central debate in the presidential race over the coming days.

Interesting, but how do replace the presidential candidate when their name will not even be on the ballot? Don’t forget voting has already started. What if one of the third party’s tried to do such a thing?

In the bigger picture the problem was laid directly on George McGovern who first failed to vet his VP, then claimed to be "1000%" in support and finally dumped the hapless fellow.

I see South Dakota & Minnesota begin on September 23, New Jersey & Vermont the 24th, Wisconsin the 26th, Illinois, Wyoming & Iowa the 29th -- all those in September.

Other early voting states begin in October.

I don't know, my only point here is the last time such a thing happened, Eagleton in 1972, he was quickly replaced by the DNC but his party went on to lose in a landslide.

I didn’t think the people would tolerate Obama’s second term, knowing that a) he wasn’t a natural born citizen to begin with. b) his first term was an abject failure by all accounts. c ) he abandoned his ambassador and staff in BenGazi and left them to die in order to cover up another foreign policy failure months before the election.

That was my memory - ECT is still kind of a shocking thing to have done (no pun intended). And look at the sentence after the one you bolded. It was the central part of the story.
Though McGovern didn’t lose because of it, he had no chance anyway. It was the last time (even) Minnesota went Republican.
I remember those days pretty well having been both a lefty and a McGovern voter at the time, even passing out flyers for him. (What can I say? I was young and stupid.)
