Gary Johnson: 'What Is Aleppo?'

Gary Johnson: 'What Is Aleppo?'

Gary Johnson, the Libertarian presidential candidate, does not know what Aleppo is.

Asked on Wednesday's "Morning Joe" what he would do if elected president about the city in Syria at the center of the refugee crisis, Johnson earnestly asked what Aleppo is even.

"And what is Aleppo?" Johnson said.

"You're kidding me," Mike Barnicle responded, who asked the question. Barnicle then began to explain what Aleppo is to the candidate.

"OK, got it, got it," Johnson cut him off, and then added, "With regard to Syria I do think it's a mess. I think that the only way that we deal with Syria is to join hands with Russia to diplomatically bring that at an end."

"It's just a mess," he said.

Yes.

No, it’s the pathetic cast of Morning Joe trying to stay relevant. Something happened to the relationship between Mika/Joe and Trump. It was somewhat chummy at the beginning and they were fairly objective (a low bar, admittedly for a liberal talk show) during the Republican primary. It was only after Trump was clearly the candidate (and I suspect his snubbing of MJ cast for some slight, possibly snubbing Joe Scarborough as a VP candidate which Joe wanted so badly) that they turned 180+ degrees (if that is possible) and all of a sudden have a love affair with Gov Weed.

This is probably why Trump wants Gary on the debate stage, so he can neuter him.

When asked his opinion on Boko Haram, Johnson replied that he always loved their recording of “A Whiter Shade of Pale.”

If you don’t know...you don’t know. A little refreshing honesty. I never heard of Aleppo either.

Well, that seals it...you aren't getting my vote! lol

There are also one-handed rollers who know something about the Middle East.

He may be a complete fraud as a libertarian but he’s apparently got more $$$$ for ads than Hilliary and trump combined. Something extremely strange here

I know a lot about Syria’s geography and the evolution of the civil war that Obama stirred up in Syria, and in particular, I know a lot about Aleppo. However, I do not see that as a reasonable question for a presidential candidate. I want to know how a president will deal with the big picture, not how he (she?) will address minutia.

Ditto. I would guess that unless you were really interested in the Syrian civil war, you wouldn’t know about Aleppo.

I don’t care about war in Syria. Muslims killing Muslims. Let me know which Muslims win, when it’s over. Spare me the details now.

Aleppo, Shaleppo, who cares.

The fact that so many on this thread are ready to give Johnson a pass on this only makes more obvious our national ineptitude for foreign affairs. As a country we are not interested in the rest of the world — which is why we should stay home and not try to run it.

Q: What’s a Leppo?

A: It’s a big cat with spots.

He’s hurting Hillary more than Trump. So you have the Morning Joe answer.

Not a gotcha. Syria is relevant to our national interest. Gary is an idiot and this was the kind of implosion the media has wanted Trump to have.

Dear Free Republic,

You MUST know about Aleppo. Do a search for it in FR, at the very least.

Aleppo is our current “WMD Moment”. Aleppo is where weapons for the Middle east have been made for decades. In fact, in 2013 many people witnessing an explosion swear it was nuked.

Recently Aleppo was invaded and the word “Tactical Nuke” was used again. Syria has been making chemical weapons outside Aleppo for many decades.

With the cooperation of Iran and the involvement of Turkey and Russia it is now likely that WMD are in the hands of ISIS and Iran.

Aleppo is VERY important and not only should every presidential candidate know about it inside and out, but FR should as well.

I’ve been rather disappointed by the FR responses these past couple days. Aleppo is at the heart of global conflict right now.
