Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.

Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

I don't see the police patrol bad neighborhoods trying to stop cheese smugglers nor do I don't see a campaign to stop people from eating ice cream or burgers before getting behind the wheel. To equate "fatsos" with druggies, alcoholics is utterly ridiculous.

The fact is that,everything else being equal,an obese person is a worse surgical risk that is one who's not....ditto with smokers vs non-smokers.

Isn’t this nice. They tax away your discretionary income, which you could use to provide health care for yourself, then force you into a system that refuses to treat you because there isn’t enough of anything to go around. Coming soon to a large, powerful nation near you.

At hospitals and doctors offices all over this country right now as a condition of Obamacare, people are asked if they smoke, if they say yes, they are asked whether they want information to help them stop smoking and if they want access to nicotine replacement. Those questions are documented in the permanent record as yeses or noes.

This info will be used to determine future health care services, mark my words.

So say you will take any help they have, so it can be documented. And if you are a minimal smoker, just a few a day, you will have to decide how you are going to answer these questions for yourself.
