Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.
Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above as well as smokers will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

I imagine they’ll be sending “refugee” terrorists to the head of the line.
“health service BOSSES have warned”
Coming to clinic near you very soon.
I guess what this means in the long run is that people everywhere will start being leaner and meaner and more able to kick the liberal’ butts who started this type of biased / prejudiced regulatory punishment once the ball starts rollin. We know the libs never abide by their own rules ever so it will make our job very easy.
This is the NHS. It certainly seems to be suffering itself. Maybe this is symbolic... maybe it is too fat to be worth saving, as in bureaucrats.
If one is rich enough in Britain, one doesn’t HAVE to go to the NHS, surely? Are there still independent doctors in Britain that serve a self pay trade?
Smoking causes knee and hip injuries? Those “scientists” have been working overtime!
Fat people should be taxed, but not denied medical service.
Owebowma care will do the same soon enough.
Rationing cataract surgery? Does NHS think cataract surgery is more expensive than managing blindness in older patients?
They will ration routine surgery for overweight people and smokers, but I am sure funding for AIDS treatment, abortions, and sex change operations is sacrosanct.
In the only government medical service we have in the uUS, the military medical service, one gets absolutely kicked out for being too fat. It’s the only type of medical care paid by other people’s money that is ever going to work
People want free medicine and they think it’s going to work. No. There is no such thing. People want the government to provide medical care and they think the government is not going to be in charge of what they do wit their bodies? That their tax paying neighbors are not going to tell them what to eat?
Not unless they are the front of the line most favored race socioeconomic group of the moment of those who tell the government what to do. Right now that’s illegal immigrants. They’ll be out one day in favor of some other group
But of course one cannot be obese and expect government health care. Government health care is a communist concept. Stalin/Lenin rules will apply. Period
I'll bet they get a fast pass to the front of the line.
Morbidly obese fatsos, like alcoholics and drug addicts, tend to be bad influences on others.
I see a lot of wide flowing tents around obese “immigrants”. I wonder if this will apply to them or do they get special privileges as always?
It's true that the majority of muslims are in really bad shape, especially the women.
And to think, just four short years ago the NHS was celebrated as one of Britain’s crowning achievements at the Olympic games. From glory to “black hole” in four years.
If the fat people formed a political action group and dumped money on the politicians they could be first in line.
Politicians are for sale to the highest bidder.
“I imagine theyll be sending refugee terrorists to the head of the line.”
I don’t have much good to say about refugee terrorists normally, but I have to admit that this bunch is in DAMN GOOD CONDITION to fight and will easily meet the NHS BMI standards - so yes, they’ll get to the front of the line without issue.
...and maybe that is the plan.
Ues. The fat people need to figure out how to be valuable to the political money people. That would secure them for the moment. It’s all fleeting.
