An eighth grader in Houston, TX tried to pay for lunch with a $2 bill.
Danesiah Neal told ABC News, I went to the lunch line, and they said my $2 bill was fake. They gave it to the police. Then they sent me to the police office. A police officer said I could be in big trouble.
The officer told Danesiah she could be charged with a third-degree felony.
After investigating the incident, police discovered that the bill was real. Just very old and rare.
There are no words ........
The $2 bill is legal tender, as is the JFK 50 cent piece. Once got one of those as change for a $10 bill on a Vt. ferry.
Wiki: “ $2 bills are seldom seen in circulation as a result of banking policies with businesses which has resulted in low production numbers due to lack of demand. This comparative scarcity in circulation, coupled with a lack of public knowledge that the bill is still in production and circulation, has also inspired urban legends and occasionally has created problems for people trying to use the bill to make purchases..Today, there is a common misconception by the general public that the $2 bill is no longer in production. According to the Treasury, it “receives many letters asking why the $2 bill is no longer in circulation”. In response, the Treasury stated: “The $2 bill remains one of our circulating currency denominations... As of April 30, 2007 there were $1,549,052,714 worth of $2 bills in circulation worldwide.”
“Morons” comes to mind.
No there’s not. HOW ####ing dumb are some Americans?!?!?!
And they get to vote just like us.
Apparently a POLICE OFFICER was too stupid to realize this, which is really, really disturbing.
They aren’t that rare. Of course, stupidity is even less rare.
I got twelve of these. My dad saved them and I got them after he passed. I often wonder if most people would recognize them as legal tender.
Okay, so the lunch lady never heard of a two dollar bill. Fine.
But a cop? Really?
We’ve been getting a lot of $2 bills lately.
I asked at the bank and they said the new “gentleman’s club” in town has a cash machine that only gives $2 bills.
Go figure.
I’m surprised there are people - grown ups, no less - that don’t know there is a such thing as a $2.
This seems to happen every few years.
I have many $2 bills. Bought some more at the bank to put in Easter eggs for the 5 year old to hunt this year. Stupid school officials and police. You would think they should have checked into this before putting the kid through all that.
There are modern $2 bills that aren't that old or rare.
However, if this was, in face, an "old and rare" $2, I wonder where he got it.

The stupidity boggles the mind.
.
"...until 2016 when they were all palletized and flown to an unnamed middle eastern country."
Clearly, the kid wasn’t muslin.
