The $2 bill is legal tender, as is the JFK 50 cent piece. Once got one of those as change for a $10 bill on a Vt. ferry.
Wiki: “ $2 bills are seldom seen in circulation as a result of banking policies with businesses which has resulted in low production numbers due to lack of demand. This comparative scarcity in circulation, coupled with a lack of public knowledge that the bill is still in production and circulation, has also inspired urban legends and occasionally has created problems for people trying to use the bill to make purchases..Today, there is a common misconception by the general public that the $2 bill is no longer in production. According to the Treasury, it “receives many letters asking why the $2 bill is no longer in circulation”. In response, the Treasury stated: “The $2 bill remains one of our circulating currency denominations... As of April 30, 2007 there were $1,549,052,714 worth of $2 bills in circulation worldwide.”
Apparently a POLICE OFFICER was too stupid to realize this, which is really, really disturbing.
I have many $2 bills. Bought some more at the bank to put in Easter eggs for the 5 year old to hunt this year. Stupid school officials and police. You would think they should have checked into this before putting the kid through all that.

"...until 2016 when they were all palletized and flown to an unnamed middle eastern country."
I have always heard that the trouble with $2 bills is that the public hoards them, thinking they are valuable.
Famous story that the residents of Astoria OR were complaining a lot about the presence of the US Navy, so one pay day they paid the sailors in $2 bills. After the town’s economy was flooded with $2 bills the point was made and the belly-aching diminished.
I keep a $2 bill in my wallet, separate from all other bills. Just kinda like it, know it’s rare, but like to have an emergency piece of legal tender in case all my other bills ‘go missing.’
