Student Tries to Pay for Lunch With $2 Bill, School Calls the Police
via the Bull 101.7 ^ | 9/2/16 | via Lance Houston

An eighth grader in Houston, TX tried to pay for lunch with a $2 bill.

Danesiah Neal told ABC News, ”I went to the lunch line, and they said my $2 bill was fake. They gave it to the police. Then they sent me to the police office. A police officer said I could be in big trouble.”

The officer told Danesiah she could be charged with a third-degree felony.

After investigating the incident, police discovered that the bill was real. Just very old and rare.

“Just very old and rare.”

BS.
They’re current currency. 34 million were printed last July alone.

You can buy sheets of them, uncut new, at http://www.moneyfactorystore.gov/2currencysheetsbeptestsheet.aspx

“Apparently a POLICE OFFICER was too stupid to realize this, which is really, really disturbing.”

I find it even more disturbing that THE SCHOOL didn’t realize it-——must be quite a school.

A perfect example of the state of our education system. The “adults” at this school were totally clueless and overly reactionary.

Canada has the $1 coin, the loonie, and $2 coin, the twonie. Once I was in Toronto and at a coin laundry noticed a big slot and a small one. Then I thought, ah the big slot is for a loonie and the small one for a quarter.

We in US do have dollar coins; similar in size to quarter but a gold-ish color. Sometimes you get them in change from a vending machine (put in $5 bill for a $3 sandwich and get two dollar coins back.)

That is what amazed me — the police officer not knowing!!

I have a $2 bill, and I cherish it.

Even if they didn’t know about $2 bills...don’t these people know how to look stuff up on the interwebs.

I understand that they have removed the people involved and now have:

Well I'm going to cut some slack to the cops and the school. Many $2 bills I run across in coin displays of antique shops are United States Notes, not Federal Reserve Notes.

United States Notes have a red seal and serial number instead of the green seal and serial number of Federal Reserve Notes.

Seeing a red seal will confuse many into thinking they are counterfeit bills.

That means there are roughly 750,000,000 $2 bills in circulation or enough for every man, woman and child to have two of them.
As someone said, it is astonishing how ignorant and clueless our educators and law enforcement officers are.

I wonder what would have happened if he gave them a $1 coin :) They’re probably not aware that those exist.

How old were these officers? Bad enough the school is clueless, but the police officers?

Years ago, my ship pulled into West Coast port for a “Show the ship to the civilians” visit. It was fun when I was samed a “tour guide.”
Payday was ALL new bills, including $2.00 bills. Many shop, bar, or restaraunt people had no familiarity with $2’s.
I was, at that time, told New Yorkers would refuse to take a “2”. Couldn’t figure why.

Police officers being pretty damn stupid is pretty damn common these days.

Check the morons in Milwaukee who tackled, beat, and arrested a man and his companion who had been video recording the police when they showed up to bust up a memorial gathering for someone who had been (rightfully IMHO) shot by the police.

That man is a state legislator and his companion is an ACLU observer.

Ooops.
