YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - Tourist John Gleason crept through the grass, four small children close behind, inching toward a bull elk with antlers like small trees at the edge of a meadow in Yellowstone National Park.

I wonder if this is part of the “close the parks because blacks do not go” narrative?

Maybe the UN is looking for a reason to shut it down and sell to the Japanese. Who is in charge of Yellowstone anyway? Don’t think it’s our government anymore.

She said she was eager to see a grizzly up close.

“I want to see one right there,” Morrow said, pointing to a spot just feet away. “I’d throw it a cookie.”

I’m going to remember her name, in case I see it in the future on DarwinAwards.com.

Outdoors/Rural/wildlife/hunting/hiking/backpacking/National Parks/animals list please FR mail me to be on or off . And ping me is you see articles of interest.

More than 52,000 warnings were issued in 2015, up almost 20 percent from the year before

Tourist John Gleason crept through the grass, four small children close behind, inching toward a bull elk ...Gleason and the children approached the bull elk with no park personnel around. Gleason said he was “maybe” too close but felt comfortable in the situation as an experienced hunter who’s spent lots of time outdoors

Morrow declared herself unafraid of the park’s wildlife. She said she was eager to see a grizzly up close. “I want to see one right there,” Morrow said, pointing to a spot just feet away. “I’d throw it a cookie.”

Future Darwin award winners. Perhaps a few more of those 52,000 warnings should be citations with a financial penalty. I suppose it depends on the definition, but harassing wildlife is illegal under most state, probably all, laws.

Doubt it, they’ll concentrate on building “urban parks” for that.

The flouting of park rules stems from disbelief among visitors that they will get hurt, said Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk. “I can’t tell you how many times I have to talk to people and say, ‘Step back. There’s a dangerous animal,’ and they look at me like I have three heads,” he said.

Silly Park Rangers. People know the animals are really friendly. They even saw and heard them speaking in movies.

People like this is why I won’t go there, or anyplace else that is perpetually thronged by idiots. MUCH prefer camping in deep, raw woods, with nobody else around.

This is just a continuing trend from when the parks opened. A significant number of city/suburban folks have lived a bubble wrapped life and only know animals from movies/TV/internet.

If you look back to a hundred years ago, you will find equally stupid things occurring. The Wiki article on Yellowstone notes:

“The feeding of “tame” black bears was popular with tourists in the early days of the park, but led to 527 injuries between 1931 and 1939.”

The difference now is the volume of visitors, not the stupidity of human beings.
