When I took the class in FL they made a point of trying to make us understand that under FL law, if the perp is moving away, you had better no shoot because you WILL become the bad guy. I understood perfecly. If it ain't a threat, best not shoot. Sad situation.

I was taught by a retired cop that if you shoot someone on your lawn or doorstep be sure to drag the body into the house.
