Cisco Systems Inc is laying off about 14,000 employees, representing nearly 20 percent of the network equipment maker's global workforce, technology news site CRN reported, citing sources close to the company.

San Jose, California-based Cisco is expected to announce the cuts within the next few weeks, the report said, as the company transition from its hardware roots into a software-centric organization.

Apart from Cisco, two other big software companies, Microsoft Corp and HP Inc, have also announced job cuts this year.

Microsoft said in July that it would lay off about 2,850 jobs over the next 12 months, taking its total planned job cuts to up to 4,700, or about 4 percent of its workforce.

HP Inc said in February it would cut about 3,000 jobs by the end of fiscal 2016.

Cisco, which had more than 70,000 employees as of April 30, declined to comment.

You would have to revise the taxation laws and business regulations more attractive for American companies to employ Americans and keep their offices here. Yes, as you said you should be able to go where you want but I would want to make that less profitable for you.

Exactly, though I’d characterize it as making operating a business here the most profitable option.

The regulatory environment has to be simplified and stabilized. Uncertainty is one of the largest hurdles to investment. Since Obama came into office, companies across the board have been fearful to invest due to the chaotic state of tyrannical agencies.

Their detrimental actions have proven completely unpredictable, while the consequences have been literally incalculable. Even their cronies have learned that getting in bed with the feds can lead to unintended consequences. While a few parasites get rich, nobody wins when the host dies.

When the president makes it official policy to destroy entire classes of business, you know we have a serious problem. When Congress turns a blind eye, you know it’s almost beyond fixing.

Fully agree. I know kids around here who cannot tell time. Their watches are all digital. They cannot read one with hands on the face. Never mind asking them if they know international time scale, like the military uses. 2 a.m. is 0200, 6 p.m. is 1800 hours. Don’t bother asking, they don’t know. but they can operate that smart phone and play games on it.

Truer words were never spoken.

I know, personally. It’s crazy out there.

Don’t get me started on the idiocy I just heard over the phone about a job today. There’s a lot of folks living in fantasy-land these days. Try to solve problems; they make sure they are the problem. Bizarre.

[Many tech companies blatantly discriminate on age.]

I heard that HP did that recently (today?). Does anyone know if that’s correct?
