NEW YORK Donald Trump is shaking up his campaign's leadership amid flagging poll numbers, NBC News has learned.
Kellyanne Conway already a senior adviser to the campaign told NBC News she has been promoted to the role of campaign manager. She confirmed that Paul Manafort will stay on as campaign chair but said Stephen Bannon, the co-founder of conservative Breitbart News, will come on board as campaign CEO.
The moves were first reported by The Wall Street Journal and mark yet another round of internal shakeups for a campaign that seems to be struggling to find consistent footing.
I want to win," Trump told the newspaper. "That's why I'm bringing on fantastic people who know how to win and love to win."
The Trump campaign parted ways with controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski after the primaries ended, citing a new phase of the campaign.
Manafort had been unofficially filling the role of campaign manager after Lewandowski's departure, but himself has been the subject of controversy amid questions over his ties to ousted Ukrainian Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich.
Trump has been trailing in polls to rival Hillary Clinton, with some Republicans publicly pressuring the Republican National Committee to abandon Trump's bid and instead focus on down ballot races.
The latest NBC News / SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll showed Clinton leading Trump by 9 points, 50 percent to 41 percent.
Bingo post if the morning! And I’ll throw in GOPe and fossil.
Of course they're going to quote their own poll...which is probably over-sampled with dummies by 80%.
Yes, FrosTED ass.
I hope the changes help, but we are dealing with the American people and can’t expect too much.
My opinion is that Trump was encouraged to come out and support poopheads like Ryan and McCain, Rubio, by people inside in order to “unify”. Actually, the only reason the establishment wanted that was to damage and compromise Trump.
Those poopheads stabbed him in the back. You could tell Trump didn’t want to endorse those turds.
So, he decided that he was going to take back his campaign and hire people that want to run the kind of campaign he has been winning with!
Miami media is ONLY talking about the staff changes. Not a single word on the content of Trump’s speech.
Bias.
They are all adults, all share the same ultimate objective, and none of them aim to step into Trump's role as "leader" of the effort.
This is good news. I noticed Bannon isn’t on Breitbart This morning. He’s smart, and I’ve heard Conway on that show also. They will be a great help.
Having said that, Bannon while smart as a speaker is an awful talk show HOST. If I hear his overused words hobbit, brother, wingman , etc., again, it’ll be too soon. I am thrilled listening to the British guy today, and Alex Marlowe. Hope Bannon is kept busy with getting Trump into the WH.
Thanks for that report. It was a given, going in, that the discredited press would focus on some tangential aspect of the speech, or another subject altogether. Interesting in a "train wreck" way to see which they choose.
CNN is on the campaign shakeup, and Trump will get his first national intelligence briefing today.
Good for KellyAnne.
It is what it is and for the better but has to be the LAST time!!!
Agree. The media will run with this for another 2 days talking about how much in disarray the campaign is. But it’s a good move. Manafort was never going to be the campaign manager at the outset of all this, just the convention manager. Trump is definitely results oriented. This probably has Pence’s imprint on it as well. She is close to him.
“Trump will get his first national intelligence briefing today.”
Will that be an accurate briefing or will it be the same fairy tale that the Chief Fairy has made up for him?
One thing about these briefings, whatever they are, they are supposed to be the same for both candidates.
Yeah, that worries me too. Remember “Hairy” Reid was wanting them to give Trump fake info.
I didn’t know that. Not familiar with all the names going around.
Very familiar with the issues, but dont know much more than the uninformed when it comes to who are the power brokers.
Good move.
KellyAnne rocks. Perhaps she can bring some of the Ted supporters with her. She is a winner.
I read somewhere that Manafort, while he did well managing things at the convention, is more of a GOPe type (due to his previous clients). That, plus the brouhaha going on with the work he did in Ukraine, could make him somewhat radioactive at this crucial time.
JMHO - YMMV... :-)
Winner. Ted. Hahaha.
