Probably ‘misplaced’ because they didn’t like the results.

Sort of like O’Reilly did years ago during the furor over ‘white’ proms in the South. He was against them. He ran a poll on his website. It was later pulled down and O’Reilly used the excuse that there were ‘technical glitches’.
