Donald Trump said Tuesday he would support raising the federal minimum wage to $10 an hour, a departure from his previous assertion that wages are "too high."
The Republican presidential nominee was pressed to provide a specific number by Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly, who said, "there has to be a federal minimum wage."
Trump initially dismissed that suggestion.
"There doesn't have to be," Trump said. "I would leave it and raise it somewhat. You need to help people. I know it's not very Republican to say."
"Ten bucks?" O'Reilly asked.
"I would say 10. I would say 10," Trump agreed. "But with the understanding that somebody like me is going to bring back jobs. I don't want people to be in that $10 category for very long. But the thing is, Bill, let the states make the deal."

Based on Trumps later comment that States should be setting this I took his $10 comment to mean that $10 bucks in more reasonable than $15. I don’t believe he was referring to a $10 Federal minimum wage despite the way the author of the article framed the comment.
“$10 takes the issue off the table. Good move.”
How so? Going from $7 to $15 is what they want. Going from $7 to $10 is what “we” want? It is called a compromise, mathematically.
You are right 10 dollars would cause a serious problem for the cheap labor express and 15 dollars would kill it.That is why I support 15 dollars an hour to kill the cheap labor express because if you are going to pay that much you are not going to give it to people who can’t speak English. It also helps us stick it to those people in the C of C who think we are just their toadies.
When was the last time "conservatives" even talked about the debt? Trump is more "conservative" than the other 16 losers he whooped.
The author of the article framed the comment in the form of a transcript.
Trump wants to leave it up to each state because economies in each state are different - but also said he’d be for some sort of a special lower wage for teenagers and others just starting out in the job market - so in essence he’s not for a real federal “minimum wage” except in name only....
I’m so old that I remember working as a Waitress for $1.04/hr plus tips!
You certainly learn to multi-task, put out fires as they break out, give customer service with a smile no matter what, etc.
I was good, so I moved up to Hostess...then I joined the Army, finished college thanks to Uncle Sam, gained better skills...
...and the rest, as they say, is HISTORY!
It’s not the minimum wage rate that really matters; it’s the wanting to improve yourself, your skills and your life in general.
THAT is what the argument should be, not a dollar amount.
$10/hr then peg it to inflation. That way it is a non issue going forward.
“...10 dollars would cause a serious problem for the cheap labor express and 15 dollars would kill it.That is why I support 15 dollars an hour “
There is a bridge in Manhattan I would like to sell you. It will cure cancer and bring back Elvis. Trust me.
Seriously, how would $15/hr kill the cheap labor? By making labor expensive? It just means that NOBODY would be hiring legal labor, because the illegals would still be working for far below minimum wage. THINK!
Hard to say. Trump has come down on all sides of this issue on more than one occasion.
Mark Levin, whom the Trumpers love to hate for some irrational reason, talks about National Debt constantly. Trump had bloody well better start paying attention to it. The National Debt will pay attention to him, whether he likes it or not.
A 20% across the board import tariff balances the budget tomorrow.
Most employers are already starting new hires at 9 to 10 to start...
So no big deal here...
Yeah, see this is the stuff that drives me insane...
Basic civics. “federal” and “state” mean entirely different things and I expect the potential POTUS to understand that when he’s speaking his positions.
We don’t do ourselves any favors by not putting some standards on our candidates. I’m voting for Trump but, man, he needs to tighten up before the debates. The media is waiting for crap like this.
“$10/hr then peg it to inflation. That way it is a non issue going forward.”
So, if I read it right, you want a massive 300% inflation just to make this pandering a “non issue”?
Sorry conservative terrorists this might sting a little bit.
Ya gotta take care of people.
But most illegals are in construction and make more than $15 per hour right now. RESEARCH!
let the states do it. If California, Michigan, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts want to destroy what’s left of the private sector let them and invite all the workers to come on down to Texas and Oklahoma if they want to work instead of living in government housing projects living off food stamps and dodging bullets.
