Ohio Gov. John Kasich left open the possibility of endorsing his party
(Excerpt) Read more at thehill.com ...
Too little. Too late. See Hillary about what kind of
perks she will throw your way, Kasich.
well Trump did mock the Wall Street past of Lehman Bros Kasick
Kasich made a commitment to support the nominee. That was the price of accessing the GOP database.
His word has no value. His career, like Cruz's is over.
But I wouldn’t tell Kasich to feel so bad about having fallen into that vote-purity snit. There have been loads of such snits right on FR. They are oh, so well intended.
We cut the Gordian knot by clarifying what a political vote is. It is not a set of heartfelt, sworn wishes to God about where our government ought to be. It is a prudential act intended to bring our government as close as possible under our circumstances to where it would ideally be.
The effectual time for third party challenges, given a contender this powerful and flexible, came and went with the primaries. Now the plane has been programmed for a destination, it is being boarded, and the main question is whether it will get there with more electoral passengers than the next most boarded plane will, with the second most important question being how lopsidedly.
In counting up his tokens about how “evil” a Trump presidency must be, Kasich has forgotten to count how “good” it could be. Trump is not acting like a stick in the mud, errors though he may make. Kasich should not, either.
It sounds to me like a vote-purity conscience snag on his part. Nobody needs to keep a promise to do something evil.
This could be solved by Kasich agreeing that he disagrees with where Trump is about some issues, while also conceding that Trump is the best practical route to progress towards the good for America. And please do not take his political support for Trump as an endorse-all for Trump’s current agenda, and that he hopes Trump will remain open to course corrections as he goes.
I recommended the same thing. We need to contact furious donors, and find someone to primary Fredo, in TEXAS.
Glad to see a PAC is already in motion.
Cruz is sitting on millions of campaign cash and soliciting for more, for his TEXAS re-election campaign.
I’ve always maintained that Kasich is a JERK. Every time I have heard him speak, while I was listening to the news on the radio, I winced at the sheer stupidity of his words. Looks like he’s staying consistent. Once stupid, always stupid.
Welcome to a world full of jerks, E.
I totally agree.
NOTE TO KASICH...
Maybe many years ago you only had to think of yourself....but once you entered Politics..your people should come first...
YOU are the Gov. of OHIO...and that is who is looking in the other side of that cracked mirror you use...and you better wake up..your future depends on it...or you too can be HISTORY JUST LIKE TED CRUZ...
TIME TO GROW SOME GUST AND BALLS, MAN...DO YOUR JOB YOU ARE PAID FOR...IT IS NOT ABOUT YOUR HURT FEELINGS...IT IS THE COUNTRIES FUTURE...(and your wife needs to learn where her bread and butter come from...mainly, the TAX PAYERS)
As a former OHIO resident of 52 years, my opinion...
Close the door, John.
Go to hell you SOB!!
He’s jammed up in pride. This is limiting his perspective.
Pride CAN be shed.
I don’t think Trump with his PAC so much intends to push a rival for Kasich or to pre-emptively throw mud, as to be ready to deal out a tit for tat should Kasich start pot shots. Kasich has already taken some warning here by saying oh, this is not going to be for Hillary. If Kasich lets it dawn on him where his bread is buttered, he may concede in such a way to make clear that this is not about agenda specifics as much as it is about political prudence.
That’s the trouble. He’s already in a hell on earth, and Satan has a copious supply of fiery darts for him to hurl from that foxhole. Getting him out of hell, if he will only consent, should be our priority.
CNN said that Ted Cruz was sending out fundraising emails off of his speech at the Republican Convention! I tried to get one of those emails to post on FR, so I signed up for Ted’s email list. Unfortunately, that email had already been sent, and I got a generic email asking for money. I then blocked Ted’s email list.
“Kasich made a commitment to support the nominee. “
Bush, Kasich, Cruz, Graham, Fiorina, Pataki
They all promised to support the nominee, they all broke their word.
They tried to use the endorsement promise to trap Trump. Instead they trapped themselves.
Psalm 26:27
Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.
Again... these probably look like conscientious objections to them, on a false vote-purity basis.
Who’s been dancing around singing the vote-purity song lately? I’m ashamed to say it has been belted out lustily from Free Republic itself, among other places.
This IS an influential site... therefore we really ought to be watching what we say. Blowing off volcanic steam is taken seriously by observers as an endorsement to do the same.
Please just shut up about it.. We've heard your laments for months... you broke your promise, you pouted, you did everything but have a Cruz tantrum... It's over... the convention has spoken.
Get a large table in a restaurant and call Romeny and the folks at National Review and have yourselves a big fat pity party.
No one cares about your endorsement Kasich...
