Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton are deadlocked in Ohio, according to a new poll that shows the crucial state very much in play as Mr. Trump prepares to accept the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in Cleveland on Thursday night.

A new survey from Suffolk University finds that Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton each have the support of 44 percent of likely voters, with 11 percent still undecided. When third-party candidates such as Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party nominee, and the Green Party’s Jill Stein are included, Mrs. Clinton holds a four-point lead.

“It’s absolutely up for grabs,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center.

Internals: 36-31D/R, likely voters. Good poll, still very slightly D heavy.

By who Hillary?

Please Trump simply counters them by showing Muslim terrorists attack footage, spliced with Hillary blaming it on a you timing video or claiming it’s a peaceful religion.

There is nothing Hillary can claim against Trump that Trump can’t counter and make Hillary look worse at.

Any attack they make against Trump he can counter 100 times better... Your fear is misplaced

I honestly don’t think OH is going to be close at all, I visit OH often, Akron/Canton/Cleveland areas... I don’t see Hillary winning there... the people I talk to there, the ones that should be the strongest supporters for her... can’t stand her.. they may not be crazy about Trump, but they won’t vote for Hillary.

Lifelong democratic women, that you would think are the most likely to support her, in my interactions seem to absolutely hate her... Now I know this is purely anectdotal, but the polls reinforce this reality. She’s spending a fortune there and getting nowhere.

Trump will wind up doing fine with conservatives, most of the objections they have placed on him are more spin than reality. When all is said and done, Trump won’t lose any more voters than any other Republican candidate... Tempers and emotions are still raw from the primary, but by November things will have settled down.. And he’s going to pick up voters no Republican has in decades.

And lets be honest, Trump is nearly 70 years old, he’s had a very long and successful career, if he was as hot headed, or unstable, or whatever other spin word folks want to throw at him, he would have never been able to be as successful as he’s been and his reputation would have been out there for that, and its not.. and at 70 he’s not likely to suddenly change.

Trump will win the rust bet, because of 2 primary reasons, 1) He’s running a simple campaign of putting America First... and 2) He’s finally broken the idiotic dogma that has plagued the Republican Party for 30+ years, and that is that “free trade” is a good thing... Its not, not as its been exercised, its destructive and the Rust Belt is full of towns that prove it.

I think Hillary has only 2 or 3 states she can win in the Rust Belt, MN and IL... WI possibly because of the poisoning of the electorate there by the GOPe nevertrumps during the primary... That’s really it.

Don’t believe me? Check the current polls..

20+ Million spent and its only JULY and she’s at best break even in Ohio... 15 Million spend in PA and shes at best break even in PA..... etc etc...

It’s JULY, she’s spending like a drunken sailor, Trump hasn’t spent anything to speak of and she’s at break even at best in these states....

Hillary has her convention bounce, if she gets one, and that’s it, her trajectory is downward, and will continue to do so through November.

Understand, I don’t think Logic for good or ill will be what wins this for Trump.... Just like Logic didn’t win it for Obama.. nor did it win it big for Reagan both in 80 and 84... Emotion, Emotion is what will put this over the top huge for Trump... Just like it does many elections.

Logical arguments only sway so many. Logical arguments may convince you to vote for someone, but it is raw emotion, that is going to get most folks to actually show up and vote.

Excitement is an emotion, Disgust is an emotion, Anger is an emotion... Trump wins the logical arguments hands down, but he also completely dominates the emotional arguments/influences this election cycle, and that’s why he’ll win. Trump is delivering a positive emotional message, belief in our country, our people, and recognition that we are indeed great, and that it is our own government that is hindering us from achieving our greatness, and he then spells out the details of why.. That’s an EMOTIONAL argument, followed by logical justification. Trump is hitting it out of the park.

What does Hillary have? What is the logical or emotional message she’s offering in her campaign? Think about, and get back to me? I’m a woman? I am a woman who works hard for you? What is her message? What is her emotional hook? What is her logical arguments to sell her emotional hook? Listen to her speak, go read what she is saying... she honest to god really doesn’t have one, at all... Best she can do is the other guy is bad bad bad and I have and will work for you... That’s not going to sell... it doesn’t sell. Hillary will get the folks who are going to vote Democrat because of their EMOTIONAL opposition to republicans that they have internally, and those voters are not going to vote R no matter what.... But she doesn’t have and can’t offer any real emotional or logical justifications to anyone else on why they should vote for her. As such, she is going to lose and lose big....

Trump - Emotional rewarding, voting for my country, voting against the corruption that has harmed it, voting against an administration that has failed domestically and abroad, voting for something positive....

Hillary - Emotional reward? I voted for a woman... I voted to continue Obamas policies... I supported my party... I voted against a hateful biggot...

Which of those rewards are going to motivate more people?

This thing isn’t going to be close folks.

Thanks again for your ideas.
Re: “What is her emotional hook?” Her hooks are the phobias at the basis of identity politics. And the dems can stir this up big time. While some in these “minority groups”, and even some white dems may break away from her demagoguery, the question remains whether the sum total of minorities and irreconcilable dems (plus fraud) can swing it for her. This is why Trump is trying to peel off as many dems as possible with direct appeals, rather than a purely traditional Republican appeal.
This is an excellent strategy, except for one major roadblock: the media. Granted, “enlightened” minorities and dems distrust the media, but the media is so powerful and pervasive to give me pause. For example, other that CSPAN, OANN, and internet streaming, there was no way to watch Trump’s speech without intense critical media commentary. In fact, many excellent speakers were not aired, and instead viewers were subjected to BS analysis.
So, in my world, I fear the power of the media and I see this election as very close. Without a biased media, I agree that the election would be a landslide.

Fear only gets you so far... Trump is offering positive, Hillary is negative, she can’t win folks.

Media is going to do what they always do, but how did that work out so far? They tried to take out Trump at the knees multiple times, and ever time he came out stronger.

Folks need to stop thinking this election is just like the last 6 or 7... there is a fundamental change happening here, and not fake column hopey changie timey wimey astroturfed nonsense change that they propped up Obama with.. but a Real Fundamental shift in the electorate.... they’ve been pushed to far, and they are going to take their country back from the folks they perceive have failed them.

Hillary can’t beat this, its bigger than her... its bigger than Trump.... This election is unlike anything we’ve seen in a long long time....

Again, Hillary had the press all through the primaries..and what happened? She could barely put away BERNIE!

Recognize, Trump locked up the Republican nomination against 16 established and hungry nominees, before Hillary was able to lock up the Democratic nomination against 1 kook of a grandpa socialist.... Yet, folks think she can take out Trump?

Go find a quiet room, or perhaps take a nice long walk away from all the constant noise... turn off your cell phone and just ponder in the quiet, without all the distractions and spin and noise, that simple, solitary fact... Chew on it, roll it around.... let it simmer in your intellect and imagination for a good while... Then once you have ask yourself the simple question... How can Hillary Beat him?

Simple answer is she can’t.... Insider, Corrupt, Disingenuous when people are demanding, Outsider, Change and Honesty, even if they don’t agree.

The only way Trump goes down, is if he is ever foolish enough to stop being Trump... As long as he continues to be viewed as authentic, even if he says things some folks don’t agree with... He’s going to make minced meat out of Hillary. No one, not even Hillary’s supporters think she is authentic.

This was true about Trump in the Primary, its True in the general... Trump remains authentically Trump, Hillary cannot touch him... just like Rubio, Cruz, Jeb, Christie, Kasich, Fiorina, Carson, Paul, Perry, Walker, Jindal, Graham, Pataki, Huckabee, Gilmore & Santorum, couldn’t touch him.

The fear of the media is frankly silly, Trump has man handled the media this entire cycle... They can no more handle him now than they did over the last year. This fearful thinking is locked in the past, this isn’t an election where 2 folks just concede most of the map, try not to offend anyone and then try to have the better GOTV ina handful of states....

Every time the media plays its typical game, not only does Trump call them on it, he comes out even stronger from it. Stop living in fear.

My fear is not constant, but it does come in waves.
The only thing I take issue with your analysis is “Hillary had the press all through the primaries..and what happened? She could barely put away BERNIE!”
The press did not want to go “full Trump” on Bernie to avoid alienating his supporters that Clinton would need in the general.
Anyway, your confidence, analysis, etc is refreshing.
