we predicted it would. Donald Trump gave Senator Ted Cruz the rope, and Ted hung himself -diminished himself- on national TV.

That is the art of the Deal. Trump plays chess and saw that this would be Ted destroying himself in the wrong place.

Don’t be too angry… The backlash Cruz is going to get from his prideful and arrogant display will be written in the annals of political history and shared with political science classes for generations.

I agree with that. I am not overly angry. I am still totally stunned and amazed at the deep, abiding, foundational stupidity of that man. It is a stupidity that is positively breathtaking.

Cruz is another treasonous politician who will be getting what he deserves as punishment from President Trump.

Talk about tone deaf.

He was obtuse to the will of the delegates.

And that smug look of defiance on his face did not help any.

Any remaining Cruzbots should be ashamed by this act of Cruz. I hope he loses all offices and that any supporters are now FORMER Supporters.

For a supposedly smart guy, that Ted Cruz sure is stupid.

I think he actually believed he'd walk out of that hall with the 2020 nomination sewed up.

NOBODY was more surprised than Ted Cruz tonight.

Nobody.

I watched the Cruz speech on Youtube today. Mr. Cruz spoke with confidence, clarity and puffy weasel words. “When we are old and grey, we will look back...”, “My father came to America with a hundred dollars...”

Yawn. It seems as if Cruz gave a lame speech on purpose to spite the crowd. If so, then he is a sore loser.

Ted Cruz single handedly destroyed his entire political future tonight. He showed the Republican Party and the nation at large that the only person and thing Ted Cruz cares about is: Ted Cruz!

For all of his pontificating on "the constitution", and "the rule of law". By totally ignoring Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, and by utterly failing to endorse him, his speech demonstrated one thing: Ted Cruz is a LIAR who does not keep his word!

Lying Ted, singned the agreement and promised IN WRITING to support the Republican Party's nominee, then when the time actually came to do so, Lying Ted BROKE HIS PROMISE AND HIS WORD! Donald Trump has the innate ability to size a man up and discern his character and "the metal of the man". Mr. Trump succinctly characterized his analysis of the man Ted Cruz with a two-word title which will stick to and haunt Ted Cruz for the rest of his short lived political career and life:

"Lying Ted"

Tonight, Ted Cruz's "speech", and performance affirmed Mr. Trump's apt title himself for America and all the world to see. For all his talk, he is in reality a very small, self-centered man who doesn't care about America, Americans, the constitution, or the "rule of law"; the only thing Ted Cruz cares about is HIMSELF, HIS POLITICAL AMBITIONS AND ASPIRATIONS.

"Lyin Ted" committed political suicide on National TV!

As a conservative I found myself nodding with Cruz’s vision for the country but it all went downhill fast.

Instead of a paean to party unity, it turned into a lecture about Cruz’s own political needs.

Which reminds me of a famous incident involving Ronald Reagan and a microphone, where Reagan tartly replied, “Its mine, I paid for it.”

Cruz wasn’t paying his dues in the party vineyards.

A year ago, he was one of the only 3 people I said I could support and vote for... and of the 3 he was the only current sitting politician, I felt I could support. Now a year later, I have realized he is a typical lying politician and I would not vote for him for dog catcher!

For contrast, here is Reagan’s brief, warm, gracious convention speech in support of Ford, very soon after Reagan had just barely lost the nomination:
