CNN had two different people on who said Ted Cruz will not be endorsing Cruz in his speech. The one reporter said that Ted Cruz anticipates running for President in 2020 if Trump loses and wants to show his sympathies with the Never Trump movement who has supported him.
This is just as I feared when Ted was asked to speak. Trump was kind enough to ask him, but I worried that Ted would use this speech to pad his own resume, to preach to his base, to audition for 2020. Ted should not be permitted to use this speech for his own ambitions.
Ted Cruz has allowed the Never Trump movement, with many of the members (at least the ones I see on Twitter) as Cruz supporters, to fester. He allowed the division and the attempts to free the delegates, ignoring the will of the people. That chaos on the floor the other day? Led by Cruz allies/delegates!
Ted Cruz has refused to honor a pledge that he signed, that he would have expected Trump to honor. Ted knows that his endorsement may encourage some of his supporters to vote for Trump. Ted also knows it might push some of his supporters away, the ones who would call it a betrayal. Ted is staying with the ones who would call it a betrayal.
If Ted is a true conservative, 4 years of Hillary and her stacking the court would be unthinkable. If Ted is a true Republican, he would want a Republican to win. It seems he is putting his political ambitions first. It's good for Ted Cruz (in his mind) if Trump doesn't win, but it's certainly not good for our country. I don't think it will be good for Ted either. He just doesn't realize now that 14 million Trump voters won't forget how he conducted himself.
Ted's spot should be revoked in an ideal world. Unfortunately, I think the media fallout if Trump revokes and party division with Cruz supporters who are reluctantly voting for Trump would be a problem at this point. He'll be allowed to speak, and I think he should have never been offered the slot.
Maybe CNN has absolutely blown this and will have egg on their face tomorrow. Maybe their sources will be wrong or maybe Ted will change his mind. If Ted does endorse Trump, I think opinions on him would improve.
ON a calmer note, God implores people to keep their word...How does Cruz square breaking his pledge/word with his faith?
Many verses!
OT: Psalms 89:34 - My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
NT: 1 John 2:5 - But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
For our country’s sake, I truly hope your prediction is correct!
I’m not ruling out the military coup. After a couple of years of Hillary, we’ll be demanding it.
Oh, wait. After a couple of years of Hillary, we won’t actually have a military.
Thank you, yes there are many! Maybe we should flood Cruz campaign offices with Bible verses tomorrow!!
You know, send Cruz a Bible verse about breaking a vow/pledge/promise...
Eh, I may do it regardless.
Trump should cancel Lyin’ Ted’s speech if he’s just there to cause trouble.
Quoth Randy Mandy on Twitter:
For those asking. I'm planning to conscientiously abstain from voting for President.
Someone needs to remind her, conscience and principle have no place in the voting booth. Voting is a pure political act, and the only part of it subject to consideration of conscience or principle is the choice of desired outcome.
Failure to vote is a vote for Hillary. Voting for Gary Johnson is a vote for Hillary. Any vote or non-vote other than a vote for Trump is a vote for Hillary.
The desired outcome is that Hillary not be president! That is what must inform one's vote!
Especially the one from Ecclesiastes which states how God will destroy the work of your hands if you do not keep your oath. We are witnessing it happen to several GOP now.
Don’t think it’s true about Oswald. Saw a video of the picture and Oswald walks past a few guys on the sidewalk into the street. He doesn’t speak to any of the guys on the sidewalk, and not even sure any of the guys on the sidewalk are even Cruz’s father. Will look for video!
Your optimism of the #NeverTrump folks is better than mine. I literally have to check their posts on Twitter in order to determine if it’s a liberal or a #NeverTrump “conservative”. They are firmly #NeverTrump from what I see and would relish in Ted’s non-endorsement. They will call it “principled” and lament over the fact the country rejected such a fine leader. I had one tell me that he would rather have 4 years of Hillary and 2 Hillary Supreme Court picks to get Cruz in 4 years than have Trump.
I hope that you are right and many realize that the stakes are high and come around. I saw that Michael Reagan endorsed Trump tonight, and he has been opposed to him.
Exactly, and if any of them crawl out of their holes and say they are supporting Donald J. Trump now that he is in fact the nominee, please ping me!
Someone should get teddy to the doc, he’s sick in the head.
Let him try something devious tomm and I’d hope that someone, Newt/Eric/Donald Jr/Manfort/Christie - somebody, gets on stage and guides him off! Wouldn’t that be a show to end all shows?!
For me, I won’t be listening. His voice is as awful as barry, and his lies turn my stomach, so I’ll pass.
Not endorsing Trump makes Cruz look puny, slimy, delusional, short sighted, irresponsible, spoiled, ungracious, petulant, dishonorable, a sore loser, idiotic and dim witted.
That’s good to hear about Michael Reagan. You may be right about the NeverTrumpers, but I think the crossover voters, both Democrat and Independent, as well as the monster vote, as it’s called (i.e. first time voters who never bothered to vote in past elections who are motivated to register and vote because of their enthusiasm for Trump) will more than offset them.
Jeb, Kasick, Ted, et al have no idea what personal honor and commitment are.
>>As far as Republican NeverTrumpers, a good portion of them will finally see Cruz for the self serving fraud that he is, and get behind Trump.<<
100% disagree. They would rather have SWMNBN and will actively work against Trump, right up to and into the voting booth. It happened here in Delaware and today we have a self-avowed Marxist Senator. In November, he faces the GOP designated loser.
Unforgivable if true. Sen. Cruz needs to support Mr. Trump. Period.
If he doesn’t support Trump, I will never support him.
Indeed.
Of course, there is no Bible verse saying “your word is your bond” because Michelle Obama copyrighted that one before God got to it.
