Wright State President David Hopkins announced Tuesday the university has withdrawn from hosting the first presidential debate in September.
WSU cited rising costs and security costs
Costs rose from $3.5 million to over $8 million
University informed Commission on Presidential Debates at noon
WSU in an internal remediation to overcome budget deficit
UPDATE @ 2:58 p.m.:
The president of Wright States faculty union, Martin Kich, said cancelling the debate was probably for the best.
I think Its unfortunate weve gotten two months away from it and we have to pull the plug on it. I dont think that makes anyone look good. But if the alternative is we would be left with a sizeable financial liability because of this, then I think its the smart thing to do, he said.
Kich said he felt the university was low-balling what the debate was actually going to cost.
Under ideal circumstances, I think it would be a nice thing for the university to host this kind of an event, but given the financial issues the university is grappling with, from the start this seemed like a kind of dubious proposition.

That’s one way to avoid a one-on-one debate matchup with Trump... cancel the debates one at a time.
Is the clintoon “foundation” money behind this? hillary, the chronic liar criminal incompetent fascist, really doesn’t want to have to debate anyone...let alone The Donald.
This won’t prove who is Wright. Only who is Left.
I was just going to say the same thing. Clinton knows that if she goes on stage with Trump, he’ll hit her on everything, from lying, stealing, corruption, and enabling her predatory husband. It’s either cancel the debates, or have to go into a coughing fit. Of course, she could suddenly become “ill” or have a “family emergency” to cancel some of the other debates.
Like Trump once said (re terrorism) .....we can’t live like this. funny how many university advocate to bring in refugees who subscribe to an entity that advocates killing and raping people, yet are fearful of hosting a democratic debate under the “diversity” they encourage.
Those costs are incredible. Mostly due to security needs.
They may be better off having a video conference that is pieced together on a split screen. This remote method may become the new way whenever a republican looks to be getting close to winning. It would cut down on BLM trying to close down highways.
Exactly. But what will Hillary do when Trump foots the bill for security out of his own pocket and a conservative institution like Hillsdale College agrees to host?
Even better - Trump says, “no problem, we’ll have the debate at Trump National Doral! It’s a world class facility!”
Have every debate at Hillsdale college.

inchworm - Wow his statement is simply
BRILLIANT!
Too bad we have to waste precious time on cankles!
Yet Hamas and their $upport of anti Israeli action on campuses is OK.
Hillary will have to be a busy bee to get any or all of the future debates cancelled.

Were you with UD?
Helicopter the candidates and moderators to the top of Devil’s Tower.
I’m sure another college will step in and take Wright State’s place.
I wondered how Hitlery would back out of the debates without appearing to do so. Now I have my answer.
The MSM should recuse themselves from ALL Presidential debates.
My suggestion then is have someone else pay for it. I’m sure the Clinton Foundation could. Or the Saudi’s or heck, have it at Trump Tower.
Now Hofstra has taken the spot. the September 26, 2016 Presidential Debate will be held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY.
