Will Barack Obama Run for Governor of Illinois?
The Huffington Post ^ | February 12, 2016 | Will Reynolds

President Obama’s nostalgic speech in Springfield has local politicos wondering what he has planned after leaving the White House.

“I miss you guys,” Obama said during an address in the Illinois statehouse on the anniversary of his Presidential campaign announcement. He returned to his frequent theme of bringing civility and compromise to politics.

Next year I’ll still hold the most important title of all, and that’s the title of citizen. And as an American citizen, I understand that our progress is not inevitable — our progress has never been inevitable. It must be fought for, and won by all of us, with the kind of patriotism that our fellow Illinoisan, Adlai Stevenson, once described not as a “short, frenzied outburst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.” Obama will only be 55 when he leaves office next year and clearly wants to do more than paint self portraits.

His visit included a trip down memory lane to his old Senate office and a campaign-style stop to a popular lunch spot, The Feed Store. Obama has previously said Bentoh’s was his favorite during legislative sessions, but like many local businesses, they were forced to leave downtown as attacks on the state workforce damage Springfield’s economy.

Current Governor Bruce Rauner’s failure to attempt anything that remotely resembling governing has Illinois residents eagerly looking forward to replacing him in 2018. That’s just enough time for Obama to get settled in a new house and open his Presidential Library before running for Governor.

Rauner’s unpopular budget hostage taking makes him unlikely to win a second term but you can’t dismiss anyone willing to spend millions of his own dollars to fund a campaign. Perhaps only a former President can raise enough to match Rauner’s spending.

In Illinois the governors are limited to two terms, the first term in office, the second in prison.

That would be cool! Illinois governors stand a better chance of going to jail!

Much harder at the state level to blame everyone else for your incompetence, especially one already in the dumpster. No way his ego could handle the continual demise of Illinois under his helm.

I cannot imagine why he would do that. He will make a fortune writing his auto/bio and on the speaking circuit.

I don’t think they can afford the Obama’s Travel/Vacation expenses

Hell no he wouldn’t.

He might try for SecGen of the UN, though.

The soon-to-be-ex-President with the funny name would fit in fine in Madiganistan with the defacto capitol of Rahmabad.

The idea is absolutely hilarious; with Obama’s penchant for spending, it will hasten the inevitable collapse of the Chicago and state governments by a good number of years. They would go BK few as three or four, I’d guess.

Hmmm....not many Presidents run for office again.
The ones that come to mind are:

Theodore Roosevelt (President on the Bull Moose ticket)
Andrew Johnson before that (U.S. Senate? - of course Senators were elected by state legislatures back then...)
John Quincy Adams (U.S. House, as I recall)

“His visit included a trip down memory lane to his old Senate office* and a campaign-style stop to a popular lunch spot**, The Feed Store.”

*As a Senator, he voted, ‘Present’ 129 times.

**Seems all that guy does is EAT - on our dime!

I’m not sure if that’s exhaustive - but 2 of the 4 were never elected President (acceded through vacancy) - with TR acceding through vacancy before being elected in his own right.

JQA was a one-termer.

Barry plans on raking in the Clinton scale bucks and playing golf.

I don't think Obama will rake in anything near what the Clintons have. He doesn't have the energy to hustle for it like Bill and Hillary. He isn't considered a desirable party guest like Bill was for a long time. He won't have the political influence and access like Bill and Hillary have had, especially Hillary as Sec of State. Last but not least, Obama will have to pay Bill Ayes a lot of money to ghostwrite his memoirs.

I agree. But don't tell Barry that. He expects it and feels fully entitled to it.

No....
There isn’t much left to steal in California...

SecGen of the UN, however, opens up an entire WORLD of theft and graft opportunities. And he can continue to hate on America openly, as well.
