McCain had to pick someone who would shake up his campaign because he was wafting in the wind. He desperately needed a shot of energy.

Trump, on the other hand, is the locomotive. He doesn't need to pick anyone to boost him. He just needs to pick someone who confirms his principles.

There’s the issue that the lobby of Trump Tower must remain open to public, so they can’t close it off for security at a campaign event. It was the legal agreement with the city when Trump was allowed to build more height on the tower, according to what someone posted here awhile back.

Reagan named his VP pick about the same time before the convention in “76”, and it cost him the delegates of Mississippi who then switched to Ford to give him the nomination. Had Reagan waited he would have defeated Ford at the convention in the way Cruz was trying to do.

Trump could have all the rumored selections come to NYC in preparation for the announcement. They probably had been told whether they were selected or not, but not who it was. However, the press would go crazy with a rumor like this for Christie, Newt, Sessions, etc.

So my thinking is that it doesn’t mean much. As far as rumors go, it would be good to see if anyone from Pence’s team is at the statehouse ready to say he’s on the ballot for re-election for governor.
