Pokémon Go is luring players to landmarks like the 9/11 Memorial and the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC sparking outrage from people who think its insensitive.
The downtown Manhattan memorial is filled with PokeStops landmarks highlighted by a floating blue cube that gives gamers free items to catch Pokemon including both reflecting pools, the This Citys Bravest plaque and the Survivor Tree.

Playing a game is one thing, but they shouldnt do it here. This is like a sacred place, said a 61-year-old Staten Island laborer who helped clean up Ground Zero.
Koffing, a levitating purple monster with a skull and crossbones on its belly, appeared next to the reflecting pool at the memorial Tuesday right next to the thousands of names of first responders who lost their lives in the Twin Tower bombings.

Sounds like a good way to lure somebody into an ambush.
only if they aren’t on wifi and only using cellular data. A lot of the locations - such as libraries, etc that are set up as stops already have free wifi so in many cases they can limit their paid data usage.
Just remember - Michelle Obama 7 1/2 years with no impact on Childhood Obesity. Pokemon Go - 1 day with immediate impact on childhood obesity. :)
Only if it has Wi-Fi. </s
Wonder if it would become a national tragedy if a Pokemon Go Character appeared in the middle of a busy freeway?
Some late night show said the people are having strange leg pains from a strange activity foreign to them it’s called walking.
10 days ago? I don’t think it has even been out in the US for that long.
Daily use of it is a relatively small amount of data (like in the .01 mbs range). However, maybe she downloaded the app while away from an internet connection?.... I would recommend looking at the phone’s data tracking - see what actually ate up the data.
Indeed! I was thinking the same thing. If a business had a reputation for having a lure spot frequently, then they could expect more customers - at least in the short run while this app is hot. They can be bought, don’t know for how much money.
For instance - restaurant does a lure spot everyday/weekend from 5-7pm. I’d bet they start seeing a lot more business as word got out. - Maybe even facebook/twitter announce it. ‘Happy Hour’ for children, lol?
I think so, plus it is augmented reality. You look through you camera app on your phone and see animated characters superimposed on your view.
Pokémon Go: armed robbers use mobile game to lure players into trap

I had them in my yard all last week
they are gone now
The game was released about 7 days ago. My kids and I play and we’ve actually had a decrease in our data usage (30 GB plan) this month. The game, surprisingly, uses very little data. I suspect it was something else she (or someone) was doing.
There are two near the white house.
There’s nothing sacred about the 9/11 memorial. And these kids might otherwise never visit it.
I saw a lady here at work walking around with her phone looking silly the other day,, yep playing with pokemon..
I’d rather be FReeping . .
Still waiting for the first traffic fatalities or reports of trespassers/trainers being shot as they walk around private property. Yes, you can catch these creatures from a moving car, so this is going to get dangerous. If they were smart, they would charge theme parks and shopping malls to place Pokemon within their properties.
When I got to the gas station last night, I looked at my phone and there was a purple bat flying around in front of my car!
TEAM VALOR!! lol!
Yes. A game that draws crowds to churches... how terrible.
Our town has had a metamorphosis over the weekend.
Parents are out with their kids, cheering them on. The park is full. The monuments are getting attention. Old, young, black, white... we’re all playing.
Kids are getting help from teens to learn the game. Old ladies are walking with black men as they’re learning how to battle. The cops are pulling over young people at 2AM to tell them where to capture a Pikachu. Neighbors are getting out and meeting neighbors.
Yesterday morning there were more than 50 people in the park. Last night, there were hundreds. Shut-ins are being drawn out. People who desperately need exercise are braving the heat to walk the pavement.
When you have a dozen people congregating at a church at 10PM - for whatever reason - and there are no fights or arguments, you’ve got a good thing.
If the pastors were smart, they’d open their doors and offer game players bottled water along with good wishes. If they’re really smart, they’ll invite people in to sit while they battle at the gym and offer them free bibles, friendship and community.
Watched a cop and a young black man standing on the corner, exchanging tips the other night at 11PM.
Race didn’t matter. Politics didn’t matter.
Only community in the game mattered.
We don’t have any BLM protests scheduled here.
Now go Red Team Valor! lol!
