Retailers have blamed the weather, slow job growth and millennials for their poor results this past year, but a new study claims that more than 20 percent of Americans are simply too poor to shop.
These 26 million Americans are juggling two to three jobs, earning just around $27,000 a year and supporting two to four children and exist largely under the radar, according to Americas Research Group, which has been tracking consumer shopping trends since 1979.

You post derisive, denigrating comments about an enormous number of your fellow Americans and expect no criticism?
Evidently your self-importance knows no bounds.
This is an open forum and you WILL be challenged.
And you as wrong about my age, political leaning, and physique as you are about the working poor.
lol
“Poor” is only having two big-screen TVs.
That's all fair. Yes. But it was you -who started off with the rude chit. So, you can continue and we can do this more as the afternoon progresses and while doing so you are welcome to f off. lol.
And btw, how do you know there is an.... 'enormous number' involved? Are you also some kind of sleazy genie. lol, too funny old hag.
Ahhh, your grammar? Obviously, you're lacking in the correct usage of grammar. Kinda like the cuban. Dunce.
Lol. Right on Mark.
So now you are the grammar police? You know perfectly well what I meant despite my accidentally deleting the “are” while editing the message.
Dunce,however,is categorically in error.
I doubt that you would even believe it were I to post my Stanford-Binet test score, and it is probably in questionable taste regardless.
Anyone making $27,000 for a family of four has access to food stamps for free and untaxed at $649 per month, or $7,788 per year. Since a pre-tax amount of that would be a minimum 11% tax rate that gives us $8,566, for a total income of $35,566.
In fact, a family of four gets food stamps until the have an income of $44,863.
TANF adds another $462 per month in Colorado; taxed rate of that is $508 per month for a total income of $41,662.
Sorry, there are NO poor in this country.
Oh please now. Enough. No more excuses. You just aren't too bright.
And that is a good wage, I just had people on FR tell me so today.
And this is what is driving the whole $15 minimum wage push, as well as being yet another wedge issue to divide the country.
Something that NOBODY is talking about is the fact that 7 years ago, a $15/hr full time salary was actually a pretty good wage, roughly $30,000 a year. What nobody's saying is that thanks to Barky & his minions in the government, Federal Reserve, and media, the money you we've all been earning has less and less real value.
And by pushing a hot button issue, along with union rent-a-mobs, the real fact of the matter is being both hidden and ignored.

And in fact, not only are there no poor in our country, mullah obama is allowing the illegal mexicans to remain here and take jobs Americans could otherwise have.
I shop with Amazon because I’m offended by how liberal store owners feel about me and my fellow conservative Americans.
Let’s not forget Public Housing adds at least another $1,300/month or $15,600 cash value or $17,160 taxable value to that $41,663, making the total welfare value not less than $58,822.
Let’s toss in the EITC tax freebie rebate for three children of $5,948 and the total taxable value is $65,364.
So, that $27,000 for a family of 4 becomes $65,364 after just SOME of the welfare available. There is more. For instance, there is LEAP that can add thousands more.
And Post of the Day #2 for your very astute #154.Thank you.
If you have over $25,000 in assets you are over the limit and do not qualify.
So if you own rather then rent your home you probably don't qualify. If you own a couple of older cars, you probably don't qualify.
You just keep on believing what you like. Reality is far different.
I am getting mine from the US government website calculator.
“You just keep on believing what you like. Reality is far different. “
I gave real world numbers. Don’t try to insinuate otherwise.
I get mine straight from the Colorado websites for each program. Hell, I wrote some of those programs! Expert here.
While we are enumerating the welfare programs for the so-called “poor”, let’s add in the Obama Phone. For $9.95 a month, welfare recipients can get a phone that would cost the rest of us $30 or more each month. That’s another $240 per year of direct financial benefit or $244 pre-tax income dollars.
