Trump 'unlikely' to pick Christie, according to sources

TRENTON — It is highly unlikely that Gov. Chris Christie will be Donald Trump's running mate, according to two sources who are advising the Trump campaign and who requested to remain anonymous.

Instead, the sources said that former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is "the likely pick" to be the tycoon's choice for vice president.

The sources, who have been privy to some of the selection process, have insisted on anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for the campaign.

"The people who've been pushing the Christie narrative are Christie people," said one of the sources, who has heard Gingrich is the likely pick. However, "it's Trump — I doubt anyone really fully knows what he's going to do."

As the first among the 2016 field to endorse Trump last February, Christie quickly rose within the Trump inner circle, helping him with debate prep and soon after, being named the

Word in Iowa is that Ernst was very uncomfortable with Trump’s brash persona. Not a matter of politics, just personality.

This is exactly why she's a perfect VP candidate.

A presidential candidate doesn't need a political ally as a running mate. He needs someone who can balance the ticket and broaden his appeal.

From everything I've heard, the Clintons and the Gores despised each other. But when Bill Clinton ran in 1992 he was nothing more than a white-trash personality disorder from Arkansas who probably didn't even have a matching pair of socks until he got to Oxford. He needed a running mate from a respected Beltway family and a prep-school personality.

If Donald Trump is looking only at political allies, we're going to end up with a ticket comprised of two men who will be seen as unbearable @ssholes by normal, decent people in a large swath of this country.

I like your rationale. I would MUCH prefer Santorum for the reasons you stated over my own governor.

I don’t understand why you think Rick Santorum could put Pennsylvania in play when he couldn’t even win his own election!!

A BIG YES on Newt. I don’t like any of the others that are being mentioned.

The best pick for victory remains Ted Cruz. Texas is a safe state to take a Republican senate risk.

The issue is victory. The focus is not legislative experience, foreign policy credentials, our favorite candidate, or even, within reason, conservative purity. It is winning. Without victory all other hopes are dead. Period.

The latest tease was that Ivanka will be his running mate -- but I'd not be surprised at all if it's Jan Brewer. Just speculating, okay, so don't write in, okay? Even if it's Newt Gingrich for VP, I'm voting for Trump.

As am I. Santorum is a genuinely decent man, my former congressmen and U.S. Senator. Good, salt of the earth, type people live in this part of Pennsylvania and we vote much like Kentucky, just more Catholic than Protestant.

Biggest drawback, however, is that I don't think Santorum would help that much with Pennsylvania. He hasn't lived here in years and got beat for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2006 by a total idiot who had nothing going for him except his father's famous name.

Considering the fact that Trump is NOT the same old, same old kind of candidate and those writing about him ARE the same old, same old kind of people, I truly doubt that he will pick someone "obvious".

Trump has a real soft spot for our military and our vets and KNOWS military history down cold. I am not surprised that he has 2 generals on his VEEP list. :-)

Anyone who talks about Ivanka being VEEP or in his Cabinet is an uneducated, mordantly STUPID moron! It is now ILLEGAL for ANY member of a president's family to do so and has been since after JFK stuck Bobby in his administration!

It is also a big fat NO NO for the president and VEEP to come from the same state!

I want to win.

I’ve been a Trump supporter a long time...since before Iowa.

But I’m realistic about winning.

I want to win too and have supported Trump since he threw his hat into the ring!

I didn't call every primary race, because I only post facts or extremely well educated opinion. Every single primary, that I did call, months in advance, came true! Wanna know HOW I managed to do that? BECAUSE I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND POLITICS AND WAS TAUGHT HOW TO COUNT HEADS, BY THE BEST HEAD COUNTERS, BEFORE YOU WERE BORN!

Name any of the the supposed candidates for VEEP that has been bandied about, to date, and I can tell you EXACTLY hows to bring the Trump/whoever ticket down in less than 10 minutes. If I'm that "good"......imagine what a Clinton ops team can do. ;^)

I might be a bit older than you have indicated you believe me to be.

Every veep candidate has flaws as does Trump himself. Cruz was the 2nd highest vote getter and the favorite among conservatives before Trump entered the race. In my opinion, unifying those two would bring together the 2 most powerful streams from this past primary season.

Santorum lost his Senate race by almost 15 points there? I just don’t see him bringing anything new to the ticket. Santorum is popular with white blue color voters, excactly the same group who is voting for Trump anyway.
He is a good man but the wrong choice.

I know that you are an adult ( do look at my signup date; we've both been here a long time ! ), but I think that I am older than you are and I absolutely KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I have been involved and/or paying attention to politics for a far longer time than you have. If you want to REALLY know how and why, just FREEPmail me.

Many people who once were dupped by Cruz, woke up pretty fast, during this past primary season and only an extremely few here and in real life, are still in his cult. You are delusional in your assumptions re Cruz and his following. Not only that, but many who support Trump, now, would be far LESS inclined that way, should he pick Teddy...which I believe him to be too intelligent to do.

Teddy adds less than NOTHING to Trump; quite the contrary...he makes a Trump win less possible. Unlike his sychophants, most people loathe and abominate him, taken his measure and found him worse than "wanting"!
