the ship sank circa 65BC - around the time Pompey married Julius Caesar's daughter
Jones, of NYU, along with his colleagues, published their findings in Almagest

Anything mechanical that can run calculations is a computer, whether it has power or not

I have read about this a few years ago, a rather interesting piece. It boggles the mind as to who over two thousand years ago had not only the knowledge to design it along with the skills to machine something like this and what tools were used. Maybe, just maybe there was some influence from something or someone Out there As it s hard to imagine that it was all Home grown

Amazing thing is that gears had to be hand cut and then
work precisely ......

I’ve confessed my neglect to use periods because of that.

Read an interesting book called “ Longitude “. There was an English clock maker who finally made a clock accurate enough to locate your exact longitude. He also crafted gears for a sodden clock in a tower in the 1600’s that still works and the gears were made of wood. All the gears were hand cut. The book a great read!

How accurate it was would be interesting to know, I haven’t heard about that.
However, accurate or not, it is an oopart for its time for sure.

It is easier for me to imagine that we know a tiny fraction of what the ancients know than the outer space visitors came down, built stuff, and disappeared, never to come back.
I read four of the Erich von Daniken books, and he is crazy. (My excuse was that I was in fourth grade, and guillible at the time). I met his nephew, and told him his uncle was crazy, and he said, "Yes, but he's rich." I didn't argue with that.
