McConnell Says Trump Is Not Yet A "Credible Candidate"
Time Warner News NY1 ^ | June 28, 2016 | Geoff Bennett and Courtney Pence

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he has reservations about the candidate at the top the 2016 Republican ticket: Donald Trump.

McConnell made headlines earlier this week for declining to say whether Trump is qualified for the presidency.

But in an interview with Washington, D.C. bureau reporter Geoff Bennett, McConnell said Trump is not yet a credible presidential candidate.

McConnell: "Trump clearly needs to change, in my opinion, to win the general election. What I’ve said to him both publicly and privately: 'You’re a great entertainer. You turn on audiences. You’re good before a crowd. You have a lot of Twitter followers. That worked fine for you in the primaries. But now that you are in the general, people are looking for a level of seriousness that is typically conveyed by having a prepared text and Teleprompter and staying on message.' So my hope is that he is beginning to pivot and become what I would call a more serious and credible candidate for the highest office in the land."

Bennett: "At the moment, though, I hear you saying he does not meet that threshold of credibility?"

McConnell: "He’s getting closer. Getting closer."

He then called Hillary "intelligent and capable" all the while saying his Republican nominee is "not credible!" What about Benghazi or her emails?!!

Here we go again. You know who reacted positively to this on Twitter? Liberals! (and NeverTrumps like Amanda Carpenter).

One of two things are going on here:

One, Mitch has resigned himself to supporting Trump and legitimately feels that he's not yet credible and is hoping to push him that way. That of course insults the 14 million voters who did find him credible.

Two, Mitch doesn't support Trump, but he feels he has to say he's endorsing him as Republican Senate Majority leader. Therefore, Mitch wants to pull a Paul Ryan and straddle the line saying, "I support him, but I'm really concerned with..." Or, "I support him, but I strongly disagree with..." In his mind, he's feeling he's doing just enough to say the "right" thing but just enough to go with the media narrative about Trump and cause doubt even among the voters in his party. Once again, this ignores the 14 million Americans who voted for Trump.

After reading what he said about Hillary, it HAS to be number 2. I believe Mitch, like Ryan, really would prefer Hillary get elected. Then the Republicans can portray themselves as white knights fighting against Hillary and run their establishment guy in 2020.

Mitch and the GOPe are ensuring that plan B will be implemented to save this nation. They will not like the result but they are earning it.

McConnell has never been a credible conservative in addition to never being a credible Republican.

Trump might not take Sessions as VP. It might be that Trump believes if he wins, he will oust the liaberal Mitch and get Sessions in as leader of the Senate.

Same goes for the house.

I could go for that. That would be a beautiful thing.

Also, I hope Paul Ryan loses his primary to Paul Nehlen on August 9!

McConnell has been Obama’s go-to-guy throughout his whole term of office. McConnell will never be on our side, we don’t have that much money, and we don’t have the original photographs in our files that keep him in line.

He ought to have been turned out of office years ago, and it is shameful that he was not. He is one of several, McCain, Graham, Boehner, and Ryan, who have been coopted whether by the stick or the carrot or as it so often happens in Washington, both. He sold himself to the devil years ago.

All NONSENSE!

Mitch is a worthless POS who owes his seat to people who want to continue “fair trade” and open borders. If the good people of Kentucky had any sense the’d have voted him out long ago. But they are a state full of low-life welfare recipients who are, just like McScrotum Neck, “on the dole.” Kentucky’s State Building must be the Outhouse!

McConnell, you're the Senate Republican Majority Leader.

If you don't want to support the presumptive Republican candidate for President, then you should resign your position as Majority Leader -- right now. Go back to being one of the 100 US Senators, and let someone else lead.

I'll make the same challenge to Ryan.

The voters of your state or district have the right to decide whether you represent them. But in your leadership post, you also represent the party. If you don't support the party's nominee, then you have no right to hold that leadership position.

The Democrats have bent over backwards to protect Obama. And they are doing the same for Hillary. You may think you are living up to some personal standard, but your opponents have been wiping the mat with your butt because their ends justify any means.
