Gerald Walpin, the inspector general who was at the center of controversy in 2009 when he was fired by the White House amid an investigation of an Obama friend, died today. He was 84.
Walpin's son-in-law, Allan Tananbaum, said Walpin was struck by a car while crossing a street in Manhattan.
Walpin was fired in June 2009 for his investigation of the misuse of money in AmeriCorps, the service organization that was part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, where Walpin served as inspector general. The investigation focused on Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star who became mayor of Sacramento, Calif., and was a prominent Obama supporter.

Last year he wrote an article about being discriminated against as a non minority Yale alumni. I was just reading it a couple of weeks ago and book marked it. For some reason I was thinking about him as he was one of the first to get the raw end of the deal.

If the gutless Republicans would have impeached hussein over his firing we could have avoided the last 7 yrs. yet they let this man’s career be sullied and his reputation be tarnished.

It was a terrible situation and he was very wronged. It was a double whammy when the admin tried to make him out to be ‘senile’.

I remember the first scandal where the man in the White House intervened,everyone knew it was a coverup,and would be more to come. All he has done for Sacramento was for people of color, and the Arena he has been working on has been all polotics. Just another freebie looking for a place to scam.
