Why are 46 cities in China sinking?

According to the Chinese government, 46 cities across China are sinking into the ground. In the last decade alone, Beijing has sunk 14 inches. The city continues to sink at a rate of nearly 11 centimeters per year.

And there are other cities which are exploring potential solutions, including Mexico City, which is sinking even faster than Beijing, at a rate of 28 centimeters per year.

Worked with a Thai chemist for years. Nice guy. After the Boxing Day earthquake and tsunami in 2004. Not long after he visited his homeland. The people told him the general consensus was that it was ‘The Yankee’ drilling for oil that caused the problem.

Haven't you ever seen that photo of some Kali agricultural area that depleted the water table so much, it dropped thirty feet over some X number of decades?

I'm no rocket scientist either but China probably has more people per square mile than is advisable in most areas that are sinking. Wild arse guess on my part but their population is four times ours and concentrated in major cities.
