Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump appeared to soften his tone on immigration Saturday, saying he wouldn't issue mass deportations if president.
"President Obama has mass deported vast numbers of people the most ever, and it's never reported. I think people are going to find that I have not only the best policies, but I will have the biggest heart of anybody," Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg Politics Saturday.
Pressed on whether he would issue mass deportations as he has called for in the past, Trump said: "No, I would not call it mass deportations."
"We are going to get rid of a lot of bad dudes who are here. That I can tell you," Trump said.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has promised to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexican border and deport all 11 million people living in the country illegally.
In November, shortly after he launched his presidential campaign, Trump said he would build a "deportation force" to ship those in the country illegally back to their home countries.
"We're going to do it in a very humane fashion. Believe me. I have a bigger heart than you do. We're going to do it in a very human fashion," he said.

Thanks for that. I too remembered one of Lady Thatcher’s most memorable lines when I saw the HL to this article.
That's what this thread is all about, isn't it.
Except that it’s not about Romney. He’s dead and gone basically.
Regarding Trump, I’ve heard him enough and read his positions, and I am convinced he will actually do the needful.
Agree 100%. We have to treat our immigration laws like they are actually laws. In doing so we honor the Constitution and reject tyranny.
Trump blurts out things he doesn’t understand like Jeb Bush hating women and health funding when Jeb is a relatively big spending RINO.
He’ll pander to any audience black, hispanic or women; but its clear that the ideological people around him like Manafort, Lewandowski (at cnn now), Donald Trump Jr, Roger Stone, Jeff Sessions & others don’t believe in Hispanic unicorns or pandering.
When he wins the rustbelt he’s not going to care about pandering to hispanics.
He said “Self Deportation was nasty” or something like that.
Kris Kobach, endorsed him because long term Trump was the better candidate leading to a reduction or no growth in the short term in the number per year of documented Democrats.
It is a self fulfilling prophecy. He wins the rustbelt & WH without the hispanic vote, he’ll realize he doesn’t need to pander.
As well as the EU breaking up is going to force through necessity CINO’s like Trump & Boris Johnson to go the right of Reagan/Thatcher on immigration for just survival.
I think when EBT fraudsters & others get deported he’s going to burn bridges with greedy hispanic activists who want no one deported.
Just denying them welfare would get rid od millions. Why are we fiving freebies to those who break out laws. Because Democrats want another loyal, dependent constituency. They don’t care about the downtrodden.
There’s not going to be 8 years of Trump & problem solved.
Trump’s ego, which can be a flaw on some issues, is going to cause conflict with globalists in the GOP.
George Will’s already left.
I agree with every word you said. Sure wish we had a “like” button here.
Perhaps you shouldn’t make assumptions....you what that does.
Yes, it was quite the blow, but the GOP will soldier on somehow. /s
The media started the whole “mass deportation” nonsense. We can get all the illegals out of this country without any massive roundup and deportation. We need to do a layered approach, all at the same time. We need to secure the border, enforce all immigration laws and deny services to illegals. As to deportation, the first wave needs to be those illegals that have already had their day in court and are currently under deportation orders from a court and are not currently being deported. Hard for anyone to argue with a court ordered deportation and get much support for that cause.
The enforcement of laws and denial of freebies will cause many to self deport. Then concentrate on criminal illegals- I find it hard to believe anyone would object to deporting illegal gang members with the face tats and all the gangsta look. After that just deport those that come to the attention of law enforcement in the course of their job and do away with sanctuary cities and what not. The more that are deported the more will self deport.
There is no need to go door to door, drag people out and load them on boxcars. That is the image the libs want people to get whenever deportation is mentioned though.
How many times is this poster going to melt down when the usual Dem Propaganda outlets spits out of these tired gems.
How many times have the Hillary media intentionally misquoted or heavily edited a Trump comment.
It’s like Ground Hog Day around with these non stop Sky Is Falling
Postings.
At this point willfully spreading this nonsense is either deliberate concern trolling or low info conservatism. Can’t be anything else.
Again, we have to see how it all plays out. But without the bennies, there’s no incentive for any of them. And with that, they’ll all start walking/swimming south and east and west
Exactly. I think he’ll go for the most economical solution. The laws are already on the books. Enforce them.
Some of the wall he wants to build will consist of patching up the existing legislative wall that’s fallen into disrepair.
Agree. Trump stumbles with Curiel issue.
Thank. Will try to quit thumb typing so fast and edit slowly.
.
Enforce the Immigration Laws already on the Books.
No need to wait for Congress to Act, which would be necessary to change the Laws. We all know they won’t. They will fight a President Trump tooth and nail.
No Illegals collecting Federal Government Benefits, PERIOD.
Border Patrol catches, processes and Deports. No more catch and release. Make it known that we have a ZERO TOLERANCE Policy and the flow of Illegals attempting to cross our Border will ebb.
Employers being required to enforce I-9 Requirements proving Citizenship or Legal Status to work.
That is what needs to be done.
The problem will solve itself.
Yes, I agree with your comments.
I’ve seen them slice and dice his comments so that they wound up not even being his comments, his thought, his intent.
Thanks for the link.
I believe that hackneyed expression is spelled “toe the line”.
It is one of the worn out, meaningless political expressions Orwell warned against in “Politics and the English Language” about 60 years ago.
