Quote from Cameron
I was absolutely clear [in the referendum] about my belief that Britain is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union. And I made clear the referendum was about this and this alone, not the future of any single politician, including myself.
But the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction.
I will do everthing I can as prime minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months. But I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination.
This is not a decision I have taken lightly. But I do believe its in the national interest to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required.
There is no need for a precise timetable today. But in my view we should aim to have a new prime minister in place by the start of the Conservative party conference in October.

Totally agree with you.
Every couple of years, I visit Cork in Ireland for instance, as part of my family is Irish descent and have relatives there. Always stop over in London for a few days to get over jet lag and have seen and sensed how London has changed over the decades, as has Ireland in fact. None of it though is due to EU; it is due to individual countries and respective governments, regardless of political party. Moving forward, who knows how it’ll develop.
Ah, but the U.S. also began as a true confederation of states with a Federal Government, and now the once much stronger states have been largely displaced by massive centralized federal government which really does act as sovereign.
Sure there is ebb and flow throughout history, but the overall direction is toward a sovereign governance over a subjected society.
It is even to the point now where those who are in power see the supreme law of our land as a speed bump to be removed, gone around, or ignored all together to achieve their objectives.
This is the natural end to giving up our own sovereignty as individuals and states.
Subjection will be the end of any such system.
The changes are due to low birthrates (and in the case of Ireland, people leaving for opportunity elsewhere); the issue (that we share) is the trafficking of foreigners to bolster the population - regardless of whether or not the newcomers contribute anything. Many Americans are finally accepting the fact that Mexicans aren’t going to save Social Security; they never had an interest in working to fund the retirements of old Yanquis. Instead, the Yanquis are spending billions housing, feeding, and schooling the Mexicans...
Only British, Irish, Cyprus and Malta citizens with residence in the UK had the right to vote.
I had a terrible mirgraine last night and turned in very early. I had a bad feeling and dreaded looking up the results this morning, first I checked the election day polls that come out after the polls closed, they were bad, then I looked, and the good guys won (at least in England and Wales)!
Congratulations to the patriots of the United Kingdom, 800 years after the Magna Carta another blow for freedom is struck. Bye bye Napoleonic nightmare.
Happy trails to Dave Cameron, I hope Boris Johnson is not the next PM because despite his position on this I believe that clown is overall to Cameron’s left and was a Bammy admirer, correct me if I’m wrong. How about Gove?
Now many “British” citizens with residence in the UK are from the Indian subcontinent, Caribbean, and Africa? “American” citizens in the US wave Mexican flags...
I am not fully awake—on first glance I thought Trump forgot to comb his hair. :)
“foreigners to bolster the population”
True.
What kind of leader resigns like this? A fair weathered, non flexible PM.
The EU commission acts as a legislative body, but is neither elected by the member states, nor is it accountable to them. BREXIT is a response to the same situation as the US in 1776 - the entrapment of having responsibilities (taxes, etc.) without liberties because the EU government loves to provide dictates without having to deal with the realities.
It is much like the 2016 US Federal behemoth. Unfunded mandates make the masses love fedgov, while inspiring hate and mistrust toward the states, who are relegated to acting as bag men for the fedgov overlords.
“Time will tell if it was the right decision... economically it can actually work to the detriment of the UK, I think. Bear in mind UK is not the U.S., in its economy.”
That’s why it was such a courageous decision. I have a newfound respect for England. And I hope Americans follow suit.
Congrats to our British cousins. Now, may that political earthquake happen here!
He took your advice and did.
In my area (northeastern NJ) whole schools would close without the trafficked children, and the teachers’ unions fight to prevent that (prohibiting research into whether or not students are even here legally, for example). The county north of me just added another “official” language to English & Spanish - Korean! As jobs leave the area and American workers follow them, they are replaced with Hispanics and Asians to prevent ghost towns from arising from the ashes of America’s heyday...
I’ve seen a lot of self-described intelligent people arguing this ad nauseam, but these supposedly intelligent people either aren’t really smart or they are liars: The EU is simply about ONE thing: centralizing control and giving it to a very small group of people, PERIOD, END OF STORY.
Trump’s trip to Scotland may have cost him the election. What a terrible decision he made to be out of the country on business rather than out campaigning. This is synonymous to McCain deciding to return to DC to help in the budget crisis. As opposed to Trump, he was ahead in the polls. His error in judgment got us Obama.
Lol.. sorry I find it amusing a bit since we got same problems in Australia. There are suburbs one would no longer recognise from even 5 years ago. Mostly are now Asians from China, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, and so on. 100% European as they were are now 80% mentioned Asians; affluent suburbs too.
Agree and disagree, if you want to argue it that way.
You know, the reality is that even a U.S. administration & president can take the voters for a ride. So what’s the worst deal for a U.S. president in that case?
Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached by the House of U.S. Representatives, subsequently acquitted by the Senate. Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.
Last I heard, Bill Clinton was endorsing his wife for presidency.
And, what about Carter? He still goes around giving foreign policy advice after his disastrous one term presidency and legacy as POTUS.
Law or legal processes are not perfect, not even in the U.S. - ways around it, always & so far.
People voting simply means you’ve had your say. That’s all. Thereafter, it’s up to the bureaucrats we elect. They all dictate. Only people who deal with realities are the electors i.e. the voters, election after election.
On that note, need to get some sleep!
You know what, Cameron? If you'd given a damn about what the British people wanted and gone to bat for them instead of letting bureaucRATS in Brussels run their lives, you might not have to resign yourself to resigning (a little British-style wordplay there).
Enjoy your lucrative retirement package. Just remember who is funding it. HA. Riiiiiiight.
Don’t actually know. EU immigrants would be from Spain and Poland mostly so they would not get to vote.
