Gun control initiative allowing ammo confiscation qualifies for ballot in California
The Washington Times ^ | June 23, 2016 | Valerie Richardson

A Democrat-backed measure that would give California the nation’s toughest restrictions on ammunition and allow the seizure of magazines exceeding 10 rounds has qualified for the state ballot.

The California Secretary of State’s office announced Thursday that the Safety for All initiative, championed by Democratic Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, had gathered the petition signatures necessary for a slot on the Nov. 8 ballot.

“Enough massacres, death, tears, and hate – it’s time to take action and save lives,” Mr. Newsom said in the Sacramento Bee. “The Safety for All initiative gives California voters the opportunity to keep guns and ammo out of the hands of violent, dangerous, hateful people.”

The initiative would prohibit the possession of “large-capacity ammunition magazines”—those with more than 10 rounds—and require owners to dispose of them by returning them to firearms dealers, destroying them or moving them out of the state.

The measure would also require background checks for ammunition purchases; require ammunition sales to be conducted through licensed vendors, and require those purchases to be reported to the Justice Department. Gun owners would be mandated to report lost or stolen firearms.

If gun grabbers can't get the firearms they go for the ammo and magazines.

What are the odds he is guarded by ARMED security??

What are the odds he lives in a gated community??

A big quake on the San Andreas is coming soon.

When the police are overwhelmed, or dead or injured,
the public is going to need all the guns, ammo, and 30-round magazines they can get their hands on to fight off lawless gangs of rampaging criminals.

Proper gun ownership in CA i9s not unlike possessing pot 40 years ago.

It's against the law, so if you're drinking and driving...don't carry your AR with you. And, don't show (smoke) your 30 round mags in public.

But, if you have such things snuggled away at home, there is almost NO danger of somebody knocking on your door.

And there's zero chance they can get a warrant to search.

My wishful thinking: this initiative will get more people who don’t normally vote to the polls, and they will vote against the Democrat candidates.

To look at the number of gun bills in the California legislature you’d think CA has no other problems. No solutions to build water aqueducts or pipelines? No money for desalination?

Interestingly, the ban on goose liver was overturned by a federal court saying the state’s ban stepped on the toes of federal food regulators. It is possible that in the future these types of restrictions could be undone by the passage of federal law restricting the restrictions. Those pushing for federal ccw reciprocity might find there are a few other things to build into the law.

I sincerely hope you’re right. In the middle to late 1900’s it would have been a no brainer, not so sure now.

Someone should remind them how strict Mexico’s gun laws are and the nearly 100,000 people killed in their civil war over the past decade and a half.

require ammunition sales to be conducted through licensed vendors, and require those purchases to be reported to the Justice Department.

And of course the Ammunition vendor licensing rules will be so restrictive that there will be no sales of ammunition except to police and govt entities.
