WASHINGTON The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a challenge to a race-conscious admissions program at the University of Texas at Austin, handing supporters of affirmative action a major victory.
The vote was 4-3. Only seven justices participated in the decision, as Justice Elena Kagan had recused herself for prior work on the case as United States solicitor general and the late Justice Antonin Scalias seat remains vacant.
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr, dissented.

ahh, Kennedy again.
The Borking of Robert Bork is the gift that just keeps on giving, and giving, and giving, and giving, and.....
Fat Teddy sure as hell knew what he was doing.
The protected class(s) is very grateful.
Well, if it keeps Whitey down, then it’s a good thing! *SMIRK*
We’re So Screwed.
Enough. How many decades of this institutionalized racism must we endure? Inadvertently they are doing nothing but damaging minorities. When offered a choice one will pick the white because “they had to work harder to get it”.
Reverse discrimination a okay. Back at square one.
Black Privilege
A selfish game for the Democrat party, really.
If it is of the government, it should be race blind. The place for focused do-gooding is in the private square, and that is on account of God, not on account of Uncle Sugar. If private parties want to pony up for scholarships for what they have a reason to believe are neglected minorities, let them do so and God will bless.
By the way since liberals are so transfixed on outcomes, they should look at the outcomes of AA programs. If counterproductive, they should judge their tree by its fruit.

Or as might be said “if they shrank the baseball diamond when Hank Aaron stepped up to bat, would he be considered a sports great?”
Yep. Racism is perfectly okay as long as it’s against whites.
What a “supreme” court, huh?
2A is next............
affirmative action would be discriminatory if it only applied to white folks but white folks are excluded. How in the heck is that not discrimination?
Oh and this is just another reminder why Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, and the rest of the GOPe are traitors to our country.
Supremely full of itself, supremely out of touch.
The government does not have to be the countermeasure to every social ill; it is enough for it to resolve not to further the ill while also not creating the opposite ill.
Those who wanted the government to be their nanny will eventually discover that the nannyhood will go to places they never wanted it to go.
I am fairly certain this is NOT what MLK had in mind.....nor the Founding Fathers.
In fact, any 2nd grader can see this is patently Unconstitutional.
Just as long as the “unequal rights based solely on race” is in the open. SCOTUS finds race-based discrimination to be constitutional.
It’s a violation of the proper role of government. It is private parties, not governments, that God wants to step forward for the proverbial orphan and widow, inasmuch as they have special needs. And those private parties will have the sense that if they discover they are dealing with parricides and spouse killers, they won’t be so indulgent.
Universities and colleges are, by their very nature, discriminatory. For instance, I didn’t get into UNC because of my grades. So naturally, they have a lot of latitude on things like race and gender.
And it belittles.
