When Derrick DeAnda pulled up to a rollover car crash in Elk Grove, California, his first instinct was to do whatever he could to help. What he didn't expect, though, was to be billed $143 for his actions at scene of the crash.
*snip*
Weeks later, he received a bill from Cosumnes Community Services District first responders in the mail.

The title of the article is now “This Good Samaritan Was Billed After Helping a Family in a Car Crash”.
But that wasn’t the title when I first read the article.
When the bureaucracy acts stupidly, you call the mayor’s office. If that doesn’t fix it, you call his enemies in the city council/selectman or whatever. Then call the local rag that likes to muckrake.
And people wonder why others do nothing to help those in trouble? We as a society reap what we sow.
California dreamin......
BTW, if I were Derrick, I would package up 2 bottles of water (same brand and size as received of course) and send them as payment for services and materials rendered, and I would ask for a 143.00 tax deduction receipt, for the extra bottle of water.
What’s worse is that people who stop and rescue others are sometimes later sued by the people they rescued...after a bleepity-bleep “Injury Attorney” gets to them. I’ve known women that were nurses who had actually been told by their hospital employers to NEVER stop at the scene of an accident and render aid because of that. The world went to Hades a long time ago.
Just don't go off on a tangent.
Just say his back was hurt by the medical team and sue them for $10 million.
Its bankrupt California - he’s lucky they didn’t rifle through is pockets looking for spare change and freeze his bank accounts.
har har
In California only the illegal aliens get anything free.
I’d appeal it by rubbing the bill over my a$$ and mailing it back to them, telling them to scratch and sniff..... And note to self, use an alias whenever talking to a government employee.
Yup.
Frank. Frank Grimes.
Now that, right there, is downright funny.
Nonsense most all states have a Good Samaritan Law that protects people who help at accidents.
Or they don't.
That’s the liberal mentality in action in California.
Do something good and you get punished.
Come to DC and you’ll see this same policy in action but 100 times worse. However, we scream and yell like hell when that happens and many of the liberal chickenshit bureaucrats back off. They just issue more traffic and parking tickets to make up for the loss.
