What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud (LOL/Barf!)

But Frank Stelmach of Double Tap Shooting Range and Gun Shop invited me, videographer Michael Sheridan and reporter Adam Shrier to come down. Stelmach is not like many gun lovers. He admires his weaponry, yes, and has difficulty explaining why law-abiding citizens need a gun that can empty a 40-round magazine in a few seconds. But he also hates the idea that “bad people” get a hold of a gun like this and use it to kill without difficulty.

“There should be expanded background checks — extending into your family, friends and associates,” he said. “And there should be a mental health screening. In Europe, if you want to buy a gun, you have to see a doctor (for a psychiatric examination) to see if something’s not right.”

......

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

But remember, the Constitution is a document of NEGATIVE rights. It says what the government can not do.

The above are paraphrased from the words of a so-called “constitutional professor,” by the name of barak hussien obama.

Never liked the M-16. When I handled my first AK-47 in Vietnam, all blue steel & wood, the M-16 seemed like a large toothbrush.

I last fired the M-16A2 at age 61 (warrant officer here) & it still seemed like a contraption, that buffer going cha-ching next to my ear. The double tapered barrel creeped me out.

Retired now, with my M-14A, first qualified on M-14 in 1969. It is such a dream to shoot, so comfortable, I have to count each round as I fire so I don’t get carried away.

Takes someone special to hump an M-60 in the boonies all day. I did it once in basic. I salute you for that.

People who admire the way the Europeans do something should be deported there.

The first M-16 I ever shot (Basic training Lackland AFB 1966). threw it’s cases forward. Surprised me. All AR-15s I’ve ever shot threw them out to the side.

I’m no fan of Siggy. Just pulled him in to make the libtards look like the sufferers of penis inferiori that they are.

Small dicks, smaller brains!

I have a reblued 30-40 Krag mounted on the wall just above me. The Krag is from the early 40s and only holds about 6 rounds in the bolt action clip. Last time I fired it it reminded me to PUT ON THE EAR PROTECTOR. Not to exaggerate too much but without the ear covers it was a mild but thunderous explosion. The kick wasn’t too bad and the accuracy was still good at least to a 100 yards. I have pictures of myself holding it while a teenager deer hunting in Michigan near 60 years ago. Never shot one tho.

From the facebook page of the Double Tap Indoor Shooting Range & Gun Shop:

Yesterday the man in this video from the NY Daily News called and asked if he could come and interview us about the basic principles of how an AR-15 works. We acknowledged his offer so that we could prove that an AR-15 is indeed a great and safe weapon as stated in the video. After the video was filmed there was another Q&A type conversation on how things work in other countries, what are some of the things others believe would be a step into the right direction of gun control. To our knowledge we did not know that Mr. Kuntzman would completely turn things around and make our establishment look like one of anti-gun advocates. We have received dozens of phone from all over the country in regards to the article. Many of these callers expressed disgust with the article and told us to stay away from the media. I can assure everyone that we do not support mental health screenings like they do in Europe and we don’t think that government officials should take away guns from people as it was portrayed in the article. Currently we are doing everything we can to take this article down because after reading it we are just as disgusted about it as all of you are. Our team here at Double Tap would like to sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and report that we are doing everything in our power to get this article removed. I implore all of our supporters to share our apology with everyone in-order to help defend ourselves from the media who is doing anything in their power to blemish the face of all gun owners and attempting to add more rule to the fire of the attempt of the liberal gun-grabbing agenda. To those that are writing negative reviews about us, please understand we had no intentions of having this article cause such an issue, nor intentions of us looking like anti gun advocates but, to educate which in turn did the complete opposite due to Mr. Kuntzman. If anyone has anymore questions or concerns please feel free to come in or call us we will gladly discuss this issue with you. And for the record, if you get a bruised shoulder or PTSD from shooting an AR-15 you may be a Katie Couric, liberal with ought testicular fortitude.

The term “gun lovers” seems to have been accepted without any resistance or thought. I wonder how many people actually have told this femboy that they love guns. Moreover, it’s reminiscent of the term that segregationists used to describe civil rights supporters: N****r lovers.

You can’t call on an “authority” without endorsing him... sorry. Freud is an authority on gobbledygook.

There was one who had serious trepidation about being able to handle and throw a hand grenade, which was a requirement for passing basic training.

My basic training was at Ft. Leonard Wood in early 1971. There was a kid in our platoon who we knew was going to mess up the grenade toss. When he went out to the wall with the senior drill sergeant, the rest of us remained sitting on a bench in a bunker and could not see what was going on. As the drill sergeant with us was watching the kid, we were all saying “he’s going to goof up, he’s going to goof up.” The drill sergeant was trying to reassure us, “He’s going to be fine. He’ll do okay ... holy sh_t!” The grenade did not clear the wall. Fortunately, the drill sergeant with him was able to pick it up and throw it over the wall before it exploded.

I’ve only shot a Swiss army rifle. It did hurt the shoulder a little but it was so fun, it was worth it. We went all the time. I got pretty good! And I’m a sissy!

Some jobs in the military are more difficult than others.

I recall sitting on bleachers as you did listening to the others throw a grenade. Each time you heard a very loud boom. When I threw it I must have heaved it three times as far as average as it made much less sound. I was highly motivated to get it as far away as possible.

I recall that the concrete platform from which we tossed the grenade was surrounded by a deep narrow moat filled with water. The outer edge of the moat had a shaped wall so that the drill sergeant, if necessary, could kick a live grenade into the wall where it would rebound down into the water. The sergeant was then also responsible to take the recruit to the ground to avoid any injuries.

I took a four day defensive shooting class. I fired about 600 rounds in the last three days. I was firing a .45 caliber Glock. The little safety lever which is part of the trigger has surprisingly sharp edges. I had a bandage on my trigger finger by the beginning of the last day. It was a very interesting class.

The trigger pull and recoil on my 38 Special J frame is hard on your trigger finger. It’s surprising, particularly if you using 154 grain plus P rounds you shoot 25 or more rounds and your finger hurts. Doesn’t seem to be an issue with my wrist but my dog gone trigger finger’s another matter

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing.

Indeed.
