Glenn Greenwald: The FBI was right not to arrest Omar Mateen before the shooting
Washington Post ^ | June 17, 2016 | Glenn Greenwald

Citizens should not forfeit their rights if they haven't committed a crime.

The massacre at an Orlando LGBT club has predictably provoked the same reaction as past terror attacks: recriminations that authorities should have done more to stop it in advance, accompanied by demands for new police powers to prevent future ones. Blame-assigners immediately pointed to the FBI's investigation of the Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen. "The FBI closed this file because the Obama administration treats radical Islamic threats as common crimes," GOP Sen. Lindsey O. Graham argued on Fox News. "If we kept the file open and we saw what he was up to, I think we could have stopped it." Others cited core fundamental rights, demanding they be eroded. "Due process is what's killing us right now," proclaimed Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin about the FBI's inability to act more aggressively against Mateen.

Ever since the Sept. 11 attack almost 15 years ago, every act of perceived terror, and even thwarted ones, have triggered identical responses.

The WP and NYT would be singing a different tune if this had happened under a Republican administration. Remember all of the “failure to connect the dots” stuff after 9/11? But they just circle the wagons around their guy (Obama).

No, I don’t. Armed security officers are subject to the Lautenberg Amendment (prohibiting guards with domestic violence allegations from being armed) restriction, and I happen to know that even G4S enforces it.

OR the "criminal" acts of...NOT baking a cake, NOT presiding over a abominable sham "marriage," or NOT arranging flowers for homofascist show-litigants.

Glenn Greenwald. Selling out his fellow homofascists in this case. For the bi-partisan elites' "greater good" -- Destroying the Founders' homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, Marxist-Globalist America

Mateen. Allowed to murder and maim over 100 people because the State Dept and WH were lobbied with common interest goals AND Daddy's Muzzie CASH.

“See something, say something,” and be sued for “profiling” if it turns out to be a false alarm.

That’s the one aspect of contract security I’ve seen rigorously enfirced over the years

Sorry, the records seem to indicate he was the petitioner.

Too bad Lavoy Finnecum didn’t get this deference.

Exactly, he had more red flags than a Chinese military parade, but because we treat this wartime threat like a law enforcement issue, and assholes like him don’t break that threshold, we will never stop them unless and until we become as ruthless and as racist as our wise forebears were. Round the Muslims up already.

The questions are why was he taken off the watch list and how did he ever get security clearance to work for a DHS private contractor.

Great questions.

Has anyone (like anti-American anarchist/Marxist Glenn Greenwald) defended how this happened?

It is either stupidity or I think duplicity on OBotulism’s part. I think he knows exactly what he is doing and certain people with the power to do something are closing in on him. Brennan going against the mantra is telling.

If true, then let everyone in the media and so-called
“law enforcement (actually enablers of treason
and Islamic terrorist invasion)” commit ritual suicide
tonight, as would be done by anyone honorable.

It’s civil war within the security agencies now, the good eggs who haven’t been purged yet are bucking the dhimmis and traitors hard, even the Muslim convert Brennan can’t avoid admitting some facts....

“There was NO record of his issues for a gun seller to reference, he had no charge or police report/record of domestic violence, she didn’t report it, no psychiatric history officially, please, people, get up to speed before spouting off”

It’s called the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a reason.

It didn’t take the news media too long to dig up the dirt.

I’m talking about what would prevent gun purchase. HE DID NOT BREAK THE THRESHOLD. What do you not get?

Right on and they all fear Gen “Fighting Joe” Dunford who has mobilized the entire armed forces against the dhimmis and traitors according to domestic enemy laws. Did you see his mug on the press conference when Buggery was ranting? He has total hatred for the Imperial Anus. The Saudi Prince meeting today is telling. They have lost!

What I mean is, the check would come back as ok, the FBI would not be prompted to request guns not be sold, without some extraordinary process not involved in a seller’s normal check request....how many FBI agents and admin staff do we think there are? Even if they had the resources and political will, which they don’t, he was licensed as an armed security officer. FUBAR

I doubt he lied about anything. Beating your wife is not disqualifying unless convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence or subject to a restraining order. No indication of either. Threatened a co worker which could have resulted in charges, but didn’t. Law enforcement didn’t see illegal action on his part, so he wasn’t charged with anything, much less convicted. There are suggestions of a battery charge suspended when he was a minor, but probably not a felony. Background checks are useless against people of questionable character who for whatever reason have never been charged and convicted. There’s nothing to check. Add to that crimes that aren’t reported to the database, and the many states that don’t report involuntary commitments due to medical privacy, and there are a lot of cracks to fall through. Since these cracks are in totality a function of government and medical and law enforcement professionals perhaps not doing their job, the idea that more laws administered by the same people will have an impact is absurd.
