In 1964, Republican Barry Goldwater suffered a devastating landslide loss to LBJ. Aside from his home state of Arizona, Goldwater carried only five other states, all in the Deep South. Goldwater amassed only 52 electoral votes, to Johnson’s 486.
But even that paltry performance will look “extremely successful” compared to the thrashing that is in store for Donald Trump in November–if you believe Joe Scarborough. On today’s Morning Joe, after reviewing Trump’s disapproval numbers with various demographics, Scarborough said “Barry Goldwater is going to look like an extremely successful candidate.” Interestingly, Nick Confessore of the New York Times disagreed, arguing that the American electorate is so polarized that LBJ-like landslides are impossible today, and that the candidate of either party has a guaranteed base of 48%.

Barry Goldwater was a decent, honest Republican candidate.
But he was up against the loathsome Lyndon Baines Johnson who was the incumbent replacement for the slain JFK & his New Frontier.
The LBJ campaign succeeded in making Goldwater look like a nuclear madman, only two years removed from the Cuban Missile Crisis. Little girl and atomic explosion, etc.
Scarborough’s analogy doesn’t hold water at all.

I’m definitely not the go-to on election forecasting (I guessed wrong on the last three presidential elections) but I can’t help be believe that this is a case of sour-grapes from Joe.

Trump may indeed lose. The power of FREE SH*T is incredibly strong, and when you add the turncoat votes from the GOP #NeverTrump movement, she just may be able to squeak this out.
Goldwater-style landslide? No way. I think odds are better that Trump wins by a surprisingly large margin.

In addition, they know the noose is tightening on Hillary and it seems to me that there are birdies in the government leaking information to Trump about Hillary and Obama.
That’s not including the information about the wife helping the Orlando shooter, linkage between Orlando and San Bernardino, the FBI being warned weeks in advance about the Orlando shooter, etc.
That’s why they’re going full Cheetos right now on Trump. It’s now or never to get a RINO patsy up against Hillary.
Who gets to Scarborough? He was TRUMP’s fairest platform from the day TRUMP announced. Morning Joe kicked FOXMegyn News Corp to the curb in the wee hours of morning for months and months with political meat and no giggles coverage.
Hillary finally tops out, gains the Democratic nomination and then BOOM, Scarborough freaksz(!) over every TRUMP word or deed, or tiniest controversy, burying TRUMP in doom and gloom in Scarborough’s trademark authoritarian and arrogant manner.
Now, it’s Joe (for three solid hours a day) driving the oncoming train for the opposition, of blood and guts hatred toward the man TRUMP, pushing the GOP and mocking them for not openly abandoning the biggest Republican vote getter in history, to capture the party nomination.
They are all right out of the DNC mafia now. I had to quit recording his program as soon as Hillary came up with the nomination.
TRUMP must have really dissed Joe’ or his job was threatened. DJT takes nothing lying down, we know that, or else Joe was so fair to TRUMP, for so long, that he got tired of the heat he was taking from the Left and the MNBC bosses. Ryan’s half hearted :endorsement” of Trump green lighted an open season on Trump. He’s getting fragged from every direction now because they know he can’t fight back without being accused of not caring about unifying the party.
