All guns kill. Some do so with horrifying efficiency.
In Orlando early Sunday, a heavily armed madman opened fire on the crowd at a gay nightclub. The attack killed 49 people and wounded 53. It also reopened the tortured debate about gun ownership in America, where the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms. In many states that protection translates into the ability to walk into a store, fill out minimal paperwork and leave with a military-style rifle.

Pretty rich of the Tribune to have an opinion at all on what others should do. There is a defacto gun ban in Chicago and a Duck has a better chance of surviving at a shooting gallery that a citizen does going to get groceries in many Chicago neighborhoods.
I’m 65 and owned guns for most of my life. None of my guns have ever killed another human being. Why?

Why are killers always always always “heavily armed” and not just “armed”? He wasn’t any more “heavily armed” than I would be going to the range. And isn’t even “armed” really redundant considering the whole event described is a “mass shooting”?
I’ve wondered about the Orlando event from a different angle. If this guy had a legal semi-auto weapon, how was he able to kill or wound over 100 people without being taken out by a chair, beer bottle, anything? I could see how one perp could sweep a room with a full auto and kill or wound this many, but semi-auto not so much.
It appears that there were 4 police officers with the shooter inside the building at one time, perhaps more at other times. Police would be carrying selective fire weapons capable of full auto.
Is there any possibility we’ll ever see the full ballistics report and know how many people were killed and wounded by police fire?
How to control guns?
Bring Rifle/Pistol clubs into every High School across the nation. Make it a mandatory course for graduation (along with learning how to swim!), of course with Parental Objections honored. Districts could maybe learn how to do it from the Home Schoolers? Wouldn’t that be a reversal of fortune?
Become a War Time population once again. Grow a pair. Know your Neighbors. Love your country.
